He walked through the crowded streets, his eyes frantically scanning the space. Every laugh, every cry, every voice of a child set his heart pounding in his chest. His fists were clenched at his sides, frustration bubbling inside him.
Blaky sat perched on his shoulder and softly meowed as if urging him to go forward. The sun was setting, long shadows were creeping over the cobblestone streets, but Ronan ran still. He could not stop-not until he found her.
Then, by the fountain in the town square, he saw her.
She was between the two guards, shaking her little head, her head hung. Her clasped small hands were twisted, with shoulders shaking while speaking.
"You don't even know your mother's name, kid?" one guard kindly asked.
"I-I… I don't know… I don't… have a mama…." She started crying. "I just… I just want my papa…"
