Chapter 10 - Raven Again

MATED TO MY ALPHA MATE

Diva's breath caught in her throat as she backed away from the shadowy figure that had appeared from nowhere. Every nerve in her body screamed at her to run, but her feet felt like they were glued to the ground. The figure moved closer, the low, steady sound of their boots echoing against the silence of the narrow alley. It was like the whole world had gone still, holding its breath.

The figure pulled back their hood slowly, revealing a face Diva could not forget, a face that made her blood run cold. It was him. The man she thought she'd never see again.

"Raven," Diva whispered, barely able to speak the name. She had known this man once, long ago, a time before all of this mess. He had been the one person she had trusted, someone who had promised to protect her from whatever darkness was lurking in her life. But then, one day, he had vanished.

And now, here he was, standing in front of her as if nothing had ever happened.

Raven's cold eyes locked onto hers, his expression unreadable. He was still the same — tall, dark, and mysterious, with that aura of danger surrounding him. But now, there was something different about him. A weight in the air that was hard to ignore, something that told her this was no reunion, no simple meeting after years apart.

"Why are you here?" Diva asked, her voice shaking with a mixture of fear and disbelief. Her mind was racing, but she couldn't piece the puzzle together. Why was he back now? What did he want from her?

Raven's lips curled into a slight, almost imperceptible smile, but it didn't reach his eyes. "I'm here to help you," he said, his voice soft but firm. "You don't understand what's happening, Diva. You're in grave danger."

Diva shook her head, the weight of his words hitting her harder than she had expected. "I don't want your help. I don't need anything from you." Her words were sharp, but there was a part of her that wanted to reach out, to hear more, to understand why he was here.

"I know you think you're fine on your own," Raven continued, stepping closer. His gaze flickered briefly to the street behind her, as if he were checking for something. "But you're not. You never were. You've been living in a lie, Diva. A carefully crafted lie that was designed to keep you in the dark."

Diva's heart skipped a beat. "A lie?" she echoed. "What are you talking about?"

"You were never just some ordinary girl," Raven said, his tone low and deadly serious. "Your bloodline, Diva, it's tied to something much larger. Something much older." He paused, his eyes narrowing, as if debating how much to reveal. "The journal, the prophecy — it's all connected. And so are you."

Diva felt a chill run through her. Everything she had learned so far had been so overwhelming, so confusing, and now Raven was throwing in something even more dangerous, more unbelievable.

"But why now?" Diva asked, taking a step back. "Why didn't you come to me sooner? Why leave me in the dark all this time?"

Raven looked away, his jaw tightening. "Because I was trying to protect you. I didn't want you to get involved, Diva. The more you know, the more you're in danger." His eyes softened for a moment, and for just a second, Diva saw the man she used to know, the one who had promised to always be there for her. "I had to stay away so you could have a chance to live without being hunted. But I see now that I was wrong. You were never safe."

A thousand questions swirled in Diva's mind, each one more urgent than the last. What did he mean by hunted? And why hadn't he warned her sooner?

"Who's hunting me?" Diva demanded, her voice stronger now. "Who's after me, Raven? And what do you mean by 'the prophecy'?"

Raven didn't answer right away. Instead, he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out something that made Diva's heart skip a beat. It was the journal. The same journal she had found just days ago, the one that had caused her life to spiral out of control.

Her breath caught in her throat as Raven held it out to her. "The journal holds the key to everything," he said softly. "It's the reason Derek is after you. It's the reason you're in this mess."

Diva shook her head, feeling overwhelmed. "I don't understand. This journal... it can't be that important, can it? It's just a book."

Raven's eyes darkened, and for a moment, he seemed to hesitate. "It's more than just a book, Diva. It's an ancient artifact, passed down through generations. But it's not just about the journal itself. It's about what's inside it — the secrets it holds. The secrets about your bloodline."

Her heart pounded in her chest. "My bloodline? What are you saying?"

"You're not who you think you are," Raven replied, his voice low, almost like a warning. "Your true identity, your true power — it's all written in that journal. It's been hidden from you for years, but now it's time to unlock it."

Diva felt a shiver run down her spine. She had always known something was off, that there was more to her past than she could remember, but this? This was too much. She couldn't wrap her mind around it.

"But why would Derek want this journal? And why does he want me?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Raven's gaze darkened. "Derek wants the power inside you. He wants to control it. And if he gets his hands on that journal, if he unlocks the power inside, it'll be too late. There'll be no stopping him."

Diva's mind raced. She had been running from Derek, trying to escape him, but she hadn't understood the depth of what he wanted. It wasn't just her — it was everything she had been unknowingly tied to.

"What do I do now?" Diva asked, almost pleading.

Raven stepped forward, his presence looming over her. "Now, we stop Derek. We stop him before it's too late." He paused for a moment, letting the weight of his words sink in. "But we can't do it alone."

Diva hesitated. "What do you mean?"

"We need allies. People who understand the prophecy, the bloodline, and the power that's inside you. We can't fight Derek without help."

Diva swallowed hard. The realization was hitting her, hard and fast. Her life was no longer simple. She wasn't just a woman running from a dangerous man. She was part of something bigger, something ancient, and if she wanted to survive, she would have to embrace it.

But could she trust Raven? Could she really trust anyone in this twisted game?

As if reading her thoughts, Raven's eyes softened, but there was still a hard edge to his voice. "I know you don't trust me, Diva. But I'm your only chance. You don't have much time."

Diva glanced at the journal in his hand. It felt heavier now, like a burden she wasn't sure she was ready to carry. But something inside her told her that there was no turning back. The path ahead was uncertain, but it was the only way forward.

She took a deep breath, the weight of the decision pressing down on her. "Alright. I'm in. But we do this my way."

Raven's lips curled into a smile. "Good. That's the spirit."
