Chapter 5 - The Pokemon Mystery Dungeon System

To say the battle was anticlimactic…was putting it mildly.

After releasing Psyduck from the Pokeball, Dante let it keep its distance from Bonsly and just spammed Water Gun. Bonsly is a Pokemon with relatively high physical attack and physical defense. However, its weakness was its low special defense and very low speed.

With Water Gun being a special attack Water type move that is super effective against the Rock type Bonsly, it only took three hits before Bonsly fainted.

It wasn't even able to evade the attack due to its low speed. Bonsly's only means of resistance was using rocks to block the Water Gun and counter-attack, but even that was a futile effort.

After that battle, Dante was told to expect his Trainer License in a week.

Walking out of the Pokemon Alliance Branch, Dante was still in a state of stupor. Only after he got in the vehicle on the way home did he finally awaken due to the weird looks he was getting.

Touching his face, Dante felt his lips that were curved into a smile. Realizing that he was probably smiling while walking all the way from the Alliance branch made him feel a little embarrassed.

*Cough* *Cough* Dante fake coughed in order to control his facial expression into looking more stoic.

'I did it! I really did it! I'm a Pokemon Trainer now! Whew, calm down Dante. Don't smile like a fool again. Think of something more serious uhhh, the money for Pokemon food, the money to buy a starter Pokemon, the money for training equipment…'

Thinking about all the money needed for the start of his Trainer career, Dante calmed down from his excitement.

From the rest of the way home, he was brooding over how he can get the money to best begin his Pokemon career.

'I should probably choose a Grass type Pokemon as my starter. I heard that the entrance examinations for Pokemon Trainers in Universities factor in their Starter Pokemon's potential. With my limited choices of Pokemon, I can say goodbye to being admitted to International Pokemon University or Philippines Pokemon University.'

Arriving home, Dante petted Luna who greeted him at the door. Looking at their dog, Dante considered small Pokemons as his starter in addition to Grass types.

'However, the price of Pokemon food between Pokemon pet food and Pokemon for battle is astronomical. The food for battle Pokemons requires enough energy for the Pokemon to replenish their Elemental energy that was consumed during training and battle.

'Most Grass types can absorb the sunlight to recover some energy, which gives them the reputation of being the most friendly starter for trainers from the lower and middle class.'

With a sigh, Dante headed towards his room after greeting his mother and telling her the news about his passing.

"That's wonderful Dan! What do you want to eat tonight? Let pa buy some on the way home to celebrate your passing."

"Thanks ma, let's just order some pizza. I'll just catch some sleep first yawnnn, I woke up too early this morning."

A week passed in which Dante continued to research his Pokemon options while looking for possible part-time jobs. In early Monday morning, Dante couldn't help but be distracted while looking at the computer.

'The staff said that the Trainer Certificate will be given after a week. That should be today. However, it's also possible that it will arrive anytime within this week ughh…'

Standing up from the chair, Dante couldn't help but walk around the room to rid himself of the anxiety.

*Knock knock* "Delivery for Zulueta residence!"

A voice was suddenly heard from the entrance of the house. Mrs. Zulueta, who was watching television in the living room, got up from the sofa to check who it was.

Dante also came downstairs to check if it was his Pokemon Trainer license and not just the electric or water bill.

After chatting shortly and getting an envelope from the delivery man, Mrs. Zulueta walked back to the house with a smile on her face. Looking at the anxious face of Dante, her smile widened and she handed him the letter.

"Here Dan, it was addressed to you."

Thanking his mother and not caring about her walking beside him to peek, he opened the envelope.

There were two things inside the envelope, a letter and an ID. Dante first took out the trainer ID.

It was a very basic ID, with just his picture and name at the front. There were six blank spaces next to his picture, indicating his current Pokemon.

According to what he studied, this ID can be connected to the Pokemon Alliance Database so that whenever he captures a Pokemon or gets a Badge, it will get updated on his ID.

Opening the letter, it just contained a congratulatory message as well as the perks and precautions of having a Trainer ID. Included among the perks was being able to access the official Alliance database to check the racial limits of various Pokemons.

Standing at the side, Mrs. Zulueta already took out her phone at some point and was taking a picture of Dante holding the ID and the letter.

Dante hadn't noticed her at all. He was still staring at his ID while having a big grin on his face.

'Nice! That camera guy picked a good shot of me. It would have been disastrous if my eyes were closed like what often happens during our picture taking. I don't even know if I would be able to request a change of picture after getting the Trainer ID.'

Looking at the words that suddenly popped up in front of him, Dante stared into a daze. After processing the meaning of those words, his smile began to turn into a grin until it turned into full blown laughter.

At the side, Mrs. Zulueta was recording Dante laughing hysterically, thinking to herself: 'It looks like my son really dreams of becoming a Pokemon Trainer. Nevermind then, if he really wants to become a Trainer that bad, then I'll fully support him.'
