Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Arcane Academy

Arrival at the Academy

The journey to the Arcane Academy was long and arduous, but Hiroshi, Kael, and Kaze finally arrived at the grand gates of the Academy. The massive stone walls and towering spires loomed over them, casting long shadows in the late afternoon sun. The air buzzed with magical energy, and the scent of ancient tomes and freshly cut grass filled Hiroshi's senses.

"Welcome to the Arcane Academy," Kael said, his voice filled with pride. "This is where you will learn to harness your powers and grow into the mage you were meant to be."

Hiroshi stared in awe at the grandeur of the Academy. Students of various ages and races bustled about, engaged in animated conversations, practicing spells, or rushing to their next class. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and possibility.

"Come, let's get you registered," Kael said, leading Hiroshi through the main courtyard.

#### The Noble Elite

As they made their way to the registration office, Hiroshi couldn't help but notice a group of students standing off to the side, their attire far more elaborate than the others. They wore fine robes embroidered with gold and silver threads, and their mannerisms exuded an air of superiority. They laughed and whispered among themselves, occasionally casting disdainful glances at the other students.

"Who are they?" Hiroshi asked, intrigued and slightly wary.

Kael glanced at the group and sighed. "Those are some of the noble students. Their families are influential and wealthy, and they often look down on those who come from less privileged backgrounds. It's best to avoid them if you can."

Hiroshi nodded, making a mental note to steer clear of the nobles. However, he couldn't shake the feeling that their paths would cross sooner or later.

#### Registration and Dormitories

The registration office was bustling with activity. A kind-faced clerk handed Hiroshi a stack of forms to fill out, along with a key to his dormitory room. "Welcome to the Arcane Academy," she said warmly. "You'll be staying in the Eastern Wing, room 217. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask."

Hiroshi thanked her and took the key. As they walked to the Eastern Wing, Kael offered some advice. "Focus on your studies and training. The Academy can be challenging, but it's also a place of great opportunity. Make the most of it."

Arriving at his dorm room, Hiroshi opened the door to find a modest but comfortable space. A bed, a desk, and a bookshelf lined with introductory magic texts greeted him. Kaze perched on the windowsill, chirping contentedly.

"System, what's next?" Hiroshi asked, eager to continue his journey.

"You have earned 200 Celestial Coins and 100 million mana for reaching the Academy," the system replied. "Additionally, you have unlocked a new quest: **Prove Your Worth**."

**Status Update:**

- **Celestial Coins:** 200

- **Mana:** 100,000,000/100,000,000

**New Quest: Prove Your Worth**

- **Objective:** Demonstrate your abilities and gain the respect of your peers.

- **Rewards:** 500 Experience Points, 100 Celestial Coins, and a rare skill.

"Looks like I have a lot to do," Hiroshi said, determination in his eyes.

#### The First Challenge

The next morning, Hiroshi attended his first class, a general introduction to Arcane Magic. The lecture hall was filled with students, each eager to learn. The instructor, a stern-looking mage named Professor Alden, wasted no time in starting the lesson.

"Welcome, students," Professor Alden began. "Arcane Magic requires discipline, focus, and an unyielding spirit. Today, we'll start with the basics."

Hiroshi listened intently, absorbing every word. As the class progressed, Professor Alden demonstrated various spells and techniques, encouraging the students to practice.

At the end of the class, Professor Alden announced a surprise. "Tomorrow, we will have a demonstration session. I expect each of you to show me what you've learned. Prepare well."

As Hiroshi left the lecture hall, he felt a mix of excitement and anxiety. He knew this was his chance to prove himself, but he also knew that the nobles would be watching, ready to judge him.

#### Preparing for the Demonstration

Determined to succeed, Hiroshi spent the rest of the day practicing his spells. Kaze watched from the windowsill, occasionally offering chirps of encouragement. He practiced his Mana Control, Arcane Shield, and Mana Bolt, striving for perfection.

The Celestial System provided guidance and feedback. "Remember, Hiroshi, focus on your intent. Magic is not just about power; it's about precision and control."

As night fell, Hiroshi felt a growing sense of confidence. "I won't let fear hold me back," he murmured. "I'll show them what I can do."

#### Facing the Nobles

The next day, the students gathered in the main courtyard for the demonstration. Professor Alden stood at the front, his eyes scanning the eager faces. "Let's begin. Who would like to go first?"

One of the nobles, a tall boy named Lucian, stepped forward. His arrogance was palpable as he performed a series of complex spells with ease, earning applause from his peers.

Hiroshi knew his turn would come soon. He took a deep breath, reminding himself of his training. When Professor Alden called his name, he stepped forward, feeling the weight of many eyes upon him.

Ignoring the murmurs and whispers, Hiroshi began his demonstration. He summoned a Mana Bolt, shaping it with precision and control. Next, he cast Arcane Shield, creating a barrier that shimmered with magical energy. Finally, he channeled his mana into a light sphere, letting it float above his palm.

The courtyard fell silent, the nobles watching with a mix of curiosity and disdain. Hiroshi held his ground, his resolve unwavering.

Professor Alden nodded approvingly. "Well done, Hiroshi. You have shown great promise."

A noble named Alaric, whose family was known for their immense power and influence, stepped forward, his eyes narrowing as he scrutinized Hiroshi. "Impressive for a commoner," he sneered. "But let's see how your mana pool compares."

Professor Alden raised an eyebrow but nodded. "Very well. We will test your mana reserves. Step forward, Hiroshi."

Hiroshi approached the mana measuring device, a large crystal that glowed brighter with the amount of mana it detected. He placed his hand on the crystal, and it began to shine with an intense light. Gasps echoed through the courtyard as the crystal's glow rivaled that of the strongest students, including Alaric.

Then, unexpectedly, the crystal shattered into pieces. The crowd erupted in shocked murmurs and whispers.

"Impossible," Alaric muttered, his face pale with shock. "How can a commoner possess such immense mana?"

"Try another crystal," Professor Alden instructed, clearly astonished but maintaining his composure.

Hiroshi stepped forward again, this time with more confidence. He placed his hand on a new crystal, and once again, it began to glow brilliantly before shattering.

The murmurs grew louder, and the nobles looked visibly unsettled. Hiroshi's eyes met Alaric's, and he saw a mixture of confusion and fear.

"One more crystal," Professor Alden said, his voice tinged with disbelief. "This time, a reinforced one."

Hiroshi approached the third crystal, feeling the weight of the moment. As his hand touched the crystal, it glowed with a blinding light before shattering into a thousand pieces, scattering across the courtyard.

The courtyard fell into stunned silence. Professor Alden finally spoke, his voice filled with awe. "Hiroshi, your mana reserves are extraordinary. Only one other has ever shattered the mana crystals like this—the first king of our country."

A notification appeared before Hiroshi's eyes:

**Quest Completed: Prove Your Worth**

- **Rewards:** 500 Experience Points, 100 Celestial Coins, and a rare skill: **Elemental Manipulation**

Hiroshi felt a surge of pride and relief. He had proven himself beyond any doubt, and though he knew there would be more challenges ahead, he was ready to face them.

As Hiroshi stepped back, he could feel the eyes of the nobles on him, their expressions a mix of surprise, envy, and grudging respect. He knew this was only the beginning, but he was determined to make his mark.

Professor Alden, clearly impressed, walked over to Hiroshi. "You have demonstrated not only power but also control and precision. These qualities are the foundation of a great mage. Continue to cultivate them, and you will achieve great things."

Hiroshi nodded, feeling a mix of humility and pride. "Thank you, Professor. I will do my best."

The nobles, still reeling from the shock, began to disperse, but Hiroshi noticed Lucian giving him a calculating look. He knew that this demonstration had not only earned him respect but also potential rivals.

As Hiroshi walked back to his dormitory, Kael caught up with him. "You handled yourself well today," Kael said with a smile. "But remember, this is just the beginning. The road ahead will be filled with both challenges and opportunities."

Hiroshi nodded, feeling the weight of Kael's words. "I understand. I'll stay focused and work hard."

Kael clapped him on the shoulder. "Good. Now, rest up. Tomorrow, your true journey at the Academy begins."

Back in his dorm room, Hiroshi reflected on the day's events. He felt a sense of accomplishment but also a deep-seated determination to continue improving.
