Bell sat up in her bed, as her phone chimed. Her online husband's father texted her. She raised a brow and opened the message.
"Question for you," The text read.
Bell replied soon after. "What?"
Another text, "what would you do, if all this was fake?" she frowned, confused.
"What do you mean?" Bell replied.
There was a few moments of silence before he responded again. "Everything. what if it was all fake for the plot of a book?"
Her frown deepened, everything? She quickly responded, wanting to know more. "I don't know"
"What if he was just a character in a book?" He replied.
"What do you mean..?" She replied, a sinking feeling in her gut.
"Hahah wouldn't you like to know?" Another text, and she just knew he was laughing on the other end of the line.
Her next response was quick, she needed, no wanted answers. "I want to know."
"And what do I get for telling you? What if there was one person, controlling all the strings?" He responded, two questions after the other.
She hesitated for a moment, she didn't have anything she could give him. All she could do was continue to draw answers out of the man. "Like who?" She replied.
"Guess." A simple response from the man.
Was it him? "You?" Bell replied.
"No." Ok so it wasn't the man.
"Leon?" She guessed her online husband's name.
"Wrong. What if all this has lasted this long, because YOU wanted it to. What if Leon actually died in one of those attempts and someone is just pulling the strings, all so you remain happy?" Another batch of questions, what was he playing at?
"What?" The questions were beginning to confuse her.
"Hahaha I bet you feel so worthless, so lied to, so hurt, so lost." There he goes again, laughing, it just made her so mad.
"What are you trying to do?" She responded quickly, hoping for an answer.
"Your world just came crashing down, torn from what's reality and what's not." He mocked, he knew she was questioning everything and her world was falling apart. "I've almost achieved my goal..." The last text read, before the man went offline.
Bell sat there, staring at the screen of her phone. Rereading the chats over and over and over again. Her head was swimming with thoughts and questions.
Is everyone trying to break her and her online husband apart? Was it a hoax? Was it fake? Was it real? Was it a dream? Was it a lovely fantasy? Was she cat-fished? Was she lied to? Was she messed with? Are people playing mind games on her? Is it just in her head? Are all those people she met online real? Is she real? Was this man telling her the truth?
Bell shook her head, and quickly texted her online friend, who just so happened to also be her online husband's ex. Only to be bombarded with more questions.
"What do you believe?" The other girl asked. "Believe what you want, but never trust anyone who wants what you've got." The girl responded, before going offline.
What was happening to her, and why her? Did she do something wrong? Did she make someone mad? She sighed and quickly texted Leon.
"Babe, your father is being super psycho weird." Bell typed out.
After a few minutes Leon responded. "How so?" Bell sent Leon the screenshots she had taken, and he quickly responded again. "Holy fuck-"
"Yep.." She replied.
"I'll talk to him." Leon responded.
With that, the man went offline, leaving her sitting there alone.
