It will take a while for the Magic Council's squad to arrive. The Kingdom has called them because they are dealing with a human that turned into a demon. It surely is dangerous and the Kingdom is afraid the demonization effect can spread to other people, so they want the Magic Council to take care of it.
In the meantime, the half-demon is cuffed with a handcuff made out of magic sealing stone and he is put in a prison made out of the same material as well. They also station Mages and Knights to guard the half-demon even though he is still unconscious.
Alex is also asked to guard the half-demon because he was the one who defeated it. If the half-demon is awakened and somehow managed to break free, then at least they know that there's someone who can defeat it.
They ask many things about what happened and Alex doesn't have any choice but to answer them. Soon, when the Magic Council squad arrives, he also needs to answer their questions. This is more exhausting than fighting the demon.
"The ring is the cause, you say?" The investigator from the Magic Council asks while frowning.
"Yeah, I assume so. When we were still in Garcia's mansion, that guy raised his left hand and the ring glowed. I was already prepared for him to attack, so I responded quickly by covering his left hand with my magic. The attack was blocked, but then his whole body turned purple. He appeared to be dead at that time, so I thought it was the backlash of his magic item. But then he started turning into that creature."
Alex explained thoroughly how Randy's 2nd uncle turned into a demon. He doesn't want to be suspected of suspicious things and wants to end his involvement in this problem right away.
Besides, the other members of the Garcia family will be asked as well. So he needs to give them explanations that match everyone else and giving a detailed explanation is the easiest way.
The only thing he doesn't explain in detail is how he defeated the half-demon. He will never tell them that he absorbed the half-demon's magic power because it will make them think that he might turn into a demon as well.
"I see. So the problem is the ring and it seems no one else knows about it. So we'll need to wait for him to wake up. Though it seems it will take quite a while because you beat him up quite badly."
"Well, I couldn't risk it. We were fighting in the middle of the city and I didn't know his abilities. So I'd rather beat him up as bad as I could."
"You made the right choice, though maybe it's also because you are a Fairy Tail Mage. This is how you always do things anyway, so I'm not surprised."
Alex doesn't know whether he should take it as a compliment or an insult. But the way this Magic Council Inspector says it is really annoying.
"So I'm done here, right?"
"Yeah, you can go now. But we might need to call you in the future if we need something. Though I doubt it will happen."
Alex finally can leave and return to Magnolia. Of course, he needs to take his payment from the Garcia family first. They might be in a rather bad situation now, but a job is a job. He needs to be paid because he has given them good service.
Randy and his parents want to entertain him more, but they are too busy handling the problem with this demonization incident now. So they just give him his pay and even give him a decent bonus for his job.
Alex can finally return to Magnolia now and he uses the train. It's the first time Meteor Destroyer rides a train and Alex is sure the bear cub won't have many chances to do it because soon it will be too big to be allowed on a train, so this can even be its first and last chance.
While on the train, Alex actually feels uneasy, like someone with motion sickness. It reminds him of the Dragon Slayers and thinks that the same might happen to him because he has some creatures living in his body, just like how those Dragon Slayers have their Dragon parents inside their bodies.
But he only feels a little uncomfortable, unlike the Dragon Slayers who feel very uncomfortable. It makes him think that maybe he is still too weak because Wendy didn't have motion sickness at first when she was still weak.
'I don't think it's because you are weak. If I make an assumption based on your memories about this world's story, then it's most likely because you have experience with trains and other transportation modes in your past life, so you are more used to them, unlike those Dragon Slayers who never experienced riding modern vehicles before being Dragon Slayers. Your slight discomfort is coming from us because we don't feel that comfortable in this vehicle.'
Matatabi is always the one who can find the explanation for the unknown situations. Without her, Alex wouldn't be able to solve many of his problems. Though it makes Shukaku very jealous because Alex depends on Matatabi more than him who was here first.
Well, Alex never cared about it because the Tailed Beasts' abilities are different from each other. They have their advantages and disadvantages. So Alex just needs to choose the correct abilities to use depending on the situation and he obviously never discriminates on them.
Anyway, they arrive in Magnolia rather quickly and Alex reports the job to the Guild. The news about the half-demon has reached the Guild first, so everyone bombards Alex with questions which he answers with a lot of exaggeration to entertain them.
Demons are very rare to see, after all. Only a few have ever seen demons and even fewer have ever fought them. So it's easy for Alex to make them believe everything he says.
A few days later, Alex hears from Makarov that the Magic Council suspects that the ring contains the power of a demon from the Book of Zeref because it has some traits similar to the magic used by Zeref's worshippers.
They suspect that it's either made using the body of a demon from the Book of Zeref, or made by Zeref's worshippers, or made by a Demon from the Book of Zeref, or worse, Zeref himself might be the one who made it.
Either way, it has a very different type of magic power than the natural Demon race. The Magic Council actually also has demons as members, real demons of the Demon race, not artificial demons like those from the Book of Zeref, so they can differentiate them.
They also have fought Zeref's worshippers for so many years. So they obviously have a lot of knowledge about the Demons from the Book of Zeref. But this is the first time they find a human that gets demonized with the demonic magic from the Book of Zeref.
"So what are they going to do with this finding?"
"Well, they wanted to learn more about it to find ways to defeat the Demons from the Book of Zeref. But the ring was destroyed when they took it off from the user's finger. The demonized user also died when the ring was taken off and his body disintegrated into nothing. So now they can't learn anything anymore."
"... I don't know if I should say they are stupid for taking off the ring without knowing the risk or simply being unlucky."
Makarov can't respond to Alex's words, but he has a different opinion. He thinks that maybe the Magic Council has been infiltrated by either Zeref's worshippers or even the Demons from the Book of Zeref and the chance isn't low.
That's why he sent Mest to infiltrate the Magic Council. After all, Makarov has many suspicions about the current Magic Council. Well, Alex will agree that it is a den of assholes for sure.
The facility that was used to experiment on people including Alex and Ultear was under one of the Magic Council's departments. So it's safe to say that there are many filth in the Magic Council and obviously a Wizard Saint like Makarov knows about it.
But it's hard to do anything about it even if he knows a lot. The Magic Council is the strongest Magic Organization in Ishgar. They are also very important to Ishgar's magic world, so they can't just be destroyed or it will affect the whole continent, so Makarov needs to be careful.
Nevertheless, the appearance of an item that can demonize a human alerts Ishgar's magic world. Many strong Mages know that it was lucky that the one affected was a normal human. If it was a powerful Mage, then the damage would be much bigger.
But anyway, all those things are for the high-up people to handle. Alex can't really do anything about it, so he just needs to focus on what he can do, and soon, his focus is on this year's S-Class exam.
