"Alice, wake up!!!!!!!!!! You are going to be late on your first day. "
Mom screamed from the kitchen where she was preparing breakfast.
"Five more minutes, Mom,"
I grumbled lazily on the bed, my vision hazy. I was about to close my eyes when suddenly I saw a dark figure above me.
"Ahhhhh!"
I screamed and jumped up from the bed. Mom was holding a slipper above me.
"You want to sleep? Don't worry; I can help with that,"
she said and started chasing me round the room. She threw the slipper at me. I ducked and screamed,
"Mom!!!!!!!!"
She didn't listen and continued running after me. I quickly took my white towel from the rack, dashed into the bathroom, and slammed the door shut.
"You have five minutes; I better hear that shower running, or I'm coming in there to get you,"
she shouted from the outside. I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard the door close shut. "Gosh, talk about Psycho."
I undressed and stepped under the shower. The cold water running down my skin made me groan in pleasure. I ran my hands through my long Snow White-colored hair. Still don't know why my hair is this color; no amount of hair dye could fix it. It all just washes off the moment I try to rinse, so I just allowed it to be natural and started getting used to wearing oversized hoodies to stop the awkward gawking and stares anytime I stepped onto the street. The images of the past few days kept replaying in my head. My name is Alice, and I guess you already guessed that crazy psycho is my mom. Well, I don't know much about myself. My mom told me I was found in the middle of a river on ice in the middle of summer. When she was hiking, my mom saw me and immediately fell in love with me. She took me home; her boyfriend objected and told her I was a freak and no way he was going to share her with me. He told her to choose between me and him, and she chose me and left him to start up a new life with me. It wasn't easy being a single mother raising a child that's not hers. No one liked me because of my unusual white hair and blue eyes; they all treated me like I was a freak, so it's just me and her. What made it all worse was when I turned 18, I found out I had these ice powers, or snow, whatever you call it. Not like I cared, but I had to go to some magic school to master it.
I turned off the shower and stepped out from under it, dried up myself when I came out, and looked around my white-painted room with a lace of blue.
"I was leaving my life behind; all of my memories were here."
Most of my stuff are already packed in suitcases. I opened my wardrobe and tried to decide what to wear; everything was either white or blue. After a while of scanning, I decided on a white crop top and blue jackets with a white mini skirt and black and white Air Jordans. And they say, Look presentable on your first day. I went down the stairs dragging my heavy suitcases with me. When I got to the kitchen, I wasn't shocked; my mom was already bathed, dressed in a blue suit, Jacket and trousers with some black block heels sipping coffee on the kitchen counter.
She's so speedy in everything.
"Good morning, Mom."
"So now you remember it's morning.
"C'mon, Mom, this is my last morhinat home; don't be like this," I said, settling down to eat the scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast. She looked glum; the sparkle in those curious almond brown eyes dimmed. Immediately she heard what I said. I took a bite. It's so delicious. To make her happy, because I know she's going to miss me, but she's not going to admit it.
"Needs a little more salt chaperone."
I said in a french critic-like voice twirling my imaginary mustache.
"Brat,"
she said, chuckling. I continued munching happily. I finished eating and dropped the dishes in the washer. By the time I was done, Momma was already waiting for me in the living room, my suitcase by her side. She dashed into her study, a room just beside the staircase, to take the car keys and her bag. I used that as the last chance to look round the house I called home, the house where I had my first laugh, my first words, and finally I'm leaving to a world I don't know anything about. I closed the door, contemplating how to drag the two bulky suitcases with me into the car. When Mom came to join me by my side. I tried using my puppy eyes to beg her to help me with the suitcases. Understanding what I meant, she said,
"Not happening,"
she said, and left me to stand by the car. "Ugggggh,"
I groaned. I started dragging the suitcases down the stairs and to the car. My mom's orange Bronco monster jeep. By the time I reached the car, I was breathing like I just ran a Marathon
"Phew,"
I said, straightening my back and dress.
"Took you long enough,"
my mom said and collected the suitcases. From me lifting it like it's a feather and putting it in the car trunk. It took a lot not to make a retort,I entered the car and waited for Mom to come drive. She entered the car, adjusted the driver's mirror to look at my face, and said, "Wipe that frown off your face; you look ugly that way. You don't want to scare the pretty boys away."
"Mom!!!!!!!! "
I yelled exasperatedly. She started the car chuckling. The view was great , I usually don't go out much,so I made nature my friend there's so much rivers, lakes, seas, and forests around it's hard not to get absorbed in.
After a couple of hours of driving, I saw a black gate up ahead. Written boldly in what I think is gold,
"Emperial Academy"
I started sweating profusely, nervous about how the system was going to be; I didn't notice the change in Mom's expression. She stopped right before the gate, and I came down, straightening my skirt, because humans aren't allowed beyond the gate. By the time I turned back, Mom already had my suitcase by her leg. I was so busy thinking, wondering, and worrying I didn't notice Mom's change in countenance. Her eyes were downcast as she was strolling towards me. I couldn't see her face at first. When she looked up, her eyes were red, and tears were falling free from her eyes. My heart shattered. It was always me and her against the world. She's my bestie, my boyfriend; she's everything to me. Now what's she going to do without me? I was her only friend. When she got close to me, she left the luggage and fell into my arms and started crying like a baby. I was a little shocked because I know Mom to be a very strong woman; I was surprised that she could be this soft inside. I held her tight, and not knowing what else to do, I started patting her back to calm her down, holding her tight, not willing to let go. I wish I could hold her like this forever. After a while she calmed down and raised her head; she used her suit sleeve to clean her already red, puffy eyes. Her voice shaky.
"I had something in my eyes."
I had to hold myself back from laughing. I strode over, took my suitcases, and dragged them over to the gate. I looked back; I couldn't resist the urge. I ran back to hug Mom tight in the softest voice I've ever heard from Mom, "My baby girl is all grown up. I am going to miss you so much, Baby."
She whispered into my ear, still holding me tight. Although I won't want to admit it, she's been the only one I ever needed. She's been my role model, my coach, and everything. When we broke the hug, I held her hands and squeezed them tight, looking deep into her eyes, my voice almost cracking too. I told her. "I love you, Mom, though you behave like a psycho sometimes."
She wiped her tears again; they kept coming in folds while laughing. After she calmed down, she spoke in her usual commanding tone. "Don't cause any trouble."
"I won't," I said, rolling my eyes.
"Promise," she said menacingly.
"I promise I won't pummel anyone that doesn't annoy or disturb me," I said with one hand on my chest as if I was taking an oath, smiling. My mom just smiled.
I hugged her one more time before taking my suitcases and starting to walk into the school, trying hard to resist the urge not to run back to her. I heard her start the car and drive away. Entering the school was like traveling to another universe; students were hustling and bustling about; some were holding swords that looked like they had some kind of aura around them. Everything was just amazing. Walking towards my hostel, the school had sent my room number with some other things like students IDs, a school custom phone, etc. I wasn't looking where I was going and bumped into a guy wearing a red hoodie; his face totally sunk into the hoodie. I fell hard on my bum; the light miniskirt did nothing to stiffen my fall. I stood up, my butt a bit sore, expecting the guy to apologize, but he just stood up. I could feel him glare, though I couldn't see his face, and walked away. That pissed me off, totally forgetting the promise I made to Mom. A few minutes later, I threw ice crystals to the guy. I hadn't mastered my powers yet, but still I could do a lot. Before reaching him a few meters, they did a U-turn heading straight for me. The ice crystals started shooting right at me at lightning speed. Thank goodness for the judo, taekwondo, and other classes I took. One by one, I ducked everything easily, doing a couple backflips and swerving my body. Guess those classes really paid off. Who knew I would be using them at a time like this? The ice crystals struck the wall and melted instantly upon contact. A group of students had already gathered round, making videos.
đź‘ĄWho's this hottie?
đź‘Ą Damn, she's hot.
đź‘Ą Who's seeing those sexy shapes and curves?
đź‘Ą Is she an angel from heaven?
đź‘ĄLook at that glowing skin.
I hate drawing attention to myself; this just pissed me off even more. I ignored them and made some tiny crystal balls and threw them on the ground towards the guy walking almost out of sight. I don't know how he did it, but the next thing I knew, this guy was right in front of me, staring at me. He flipped his hoodie cap backwards. OMG, he looked like a total Greek god; cute was an understatement to classify this guy; everything about him was perfect; his face looked like it was sculpted by an artist. His hair was red, and so were his eyes. Something about those eyes told me they could be dangerous when provoked and that they were holding a lot of pain inside. He was glaring at me and I glared back . I noticed the people around me stopped talking and were in a state of shock; the next thing I heard when some recovered was.
đź‘Ą What!!!!!!!!!!!
đź‘ĄShe picked a fight with Kingston!!!!.
Then I saw that his hoodie had something like K inscribed in silver on his hoodie.
đź‘Ą She's so dead.
đź‘Ą She's definitely not going to last a week.
đź‘Ą Too bad she's dead meat; she's kinda cute.
