Chapter 13 - I dont recall

Rachel headed home after receiving the disturbing information from the autopsy. She couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in her stomach. She decided to pay Miss Neon a visit on Friday, hoping to take her mind off the bizarre case.

Friday arrived, and Rachel found herself in a rush to complete her paperwork before the 3 pm deadline. Just as she was typing away on her computer, Maxwell walked into her cubicle, a look of concern etched on his face.

"Is everything okay, Rachel?" he asked, his voice low and gentle. "I heard about John...what happened?"

Rachel hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. She didn't want to spread unnecessary panic or speculation. But Maxwell's kind eyes and genuine concern put her at ease.

"It's just...the autopsy revealed some weird stuff," Rachel said, choosing her words carefully. "I'm still trying to process it all."

Maxwell's expression turned serious. "Do you want to talk about it? Maybe I can help you make sense of things.

No, I'm good," Rachel said quickly, shutting down her computer and gathering her things. "I'm heading out."

Maxwell nodded, but his expression remained concerned. "Okay, be careful, Rachel. Let me know if you need anything."

Rachel rushed out of the office, her mind preoccupied with the strange events surrounding John's death. She headed to the school where Miss Neon worked, hoping to find some answers or at least a distraction from the eerie feeling that had settled over her.

As she arrived at the school, Rachel spotted Miss Neon standing outside the entrance, chatting with a group of students. Rachel quickened her pace, her heart beating slightly faster with anticipation. What would Miss Neon say when Rachel asked her about the strange occurrences?

Rachel flashed her badge and introduced herself as a police officer. "Miss Neon, do you remember me from the car crash a few weeks ago?" she asked.

Neon's face lit up with a warm smile. "Yes, I do! You saved me, right? I don't know how to swim," she laughed.

Rachel smiled back, relieved that Neon seemed to be doing well. But she needed to ask her some more questions. "Miss Neon, can you tell me more about what happened that day? Do you remember anything unusual?"

Neon's expression turned thoughtful, but then she shook her head. "I'm sorry, officer. I only remember the truck hitting us and pushing us off the road. Everything after that is a bit of a blur."

Rachel's eyes narrowed slightly, her mind racing with possibilities. She had been hoping that Neon might remember something that could shed some light on the strange occurrences surrounding John's death. But it seemed that Neon's memories were limited to the accident itself.

Rachel decided not to press Neon for more information, not wanting to cause her any unnecessary distress. Instead, she smiled and said, "Well, Miss Neon, it was good seeing you again. Have a great evening."

With that, Rachel turned and walked back to her car, her mind still reeling with questions and concerns. She got in and started the engine, then drove away from the school, lost in thought.

After her conversation with Rachel, Neon picked up her daughter from daycare and headed home to cook a delicious dinner of curry shrimp. As they sat down to eat and watch a movie together, Neon's mind wandered back to her conversation with Rachel.

She felt a surge of gratitude and thanked God that she was still alive and unscathed from the accident. Neon's thoughts were interrupted by her daughter, who looked up at her with a smile.

"Mummy, you know the Chinese man at the café?" her daughter asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "He came on TV at school today. I like him," she whispered, a giggle escaping her lips.

Neon couldn't help but smile at her daughter's innocent comment. She had no idea what her daughter was talking about, but she was happy to see her child so carefree and happy.

Neon stepped into the shower, letting the warm water wash away the fatigue of the day. Afterward, she slipped into her comfortable purple lingerie and climbed into bed.

It was finally the weekend, and she was looking forward to a well-deserved break from work. But despite the relaxation that lay ahead, Neon couldn't shake off the exhaustion that had been building up all week. She snuggled under the blankets, feeling her eyelids grow heavy as she drifted off to sleep.
