Chapter 23 - Is She Boss Luna?

Warren and I continued on our way to the main garage. Amidst all the small buildings in the area, there was one that stood out above the rest, a four-story building with its walls covered in graffiti. What caught my attention the most was the gigantic shark head on top of the building, also covered in graffiti.

As I admired the strange work of art, Warren stopped and addressed me with a stern voice and expression: "Mila, listen carefully... No matter what happens, don't smile at Boss Luna, understand?"

"Huh? Yeah, got it."

"I hope so."

With that warning in mind, we continued on our way to the main garage, and with each step, my anxiety about finding out who Boss Luna was increased.

Eventually, Warren and I reached the entrance to the graffiti-covered building with the shark head at the top. The wide roller shutter was completely open.

I suddenly scanned the entire scene around me and noticed how everyone was watching us. They all looked scared, and I heard some muttering.

"Are they going to see Boss Luna?"

"Poor fools, they have no idea what kind of monster she is!"

"B-boss Luna? How terrifying!"

Whoa, so this Boss Luna is your typical mobster? For these tough guys to tremble like children, she must be someone scary.

Although I'm not a person who is easily frightened, I have to admit that this whole atmosphere is making me feel slightly anxious.

Also, Warren's warning kept replaying in my mind: "Don't smile at Boss Luna." According to him, boss Luna can't stand shows of affection, and if for some reason someone crosses that line, her attitude turns dangerous.

While I was lost in my thoughts, a figure emerged in front of us.

"Late as usual," said a female voice.

The voice came from a brown-skinned girl; half of her hair was white and the other half black. She had light brown eyes and was wearing a hoodie with a skeleton on it, a short black skirt, and black lace boots.

What grabbed my attention was her gaze; it was intimidating. She looked upset, or maybe annoyed. Her attentions shifted from Warren to me.

"You... The girl from the mall."

"Huh? Y-You're the girl who attacked the mall!"

Although she was covering her face with a mask that day, I could tell by her tone of voice that it was the same girl from that incident. If I'm not mistaken, Warren called her Lara.

Lara didn't respond. After looking at me with her cold gaze, she turned to Warren.

"Whatever... By the way... Warmonger..." Her face twisted in disgust as she spoke to Warren, as if just saying that name made her feel incredibly uncomfortable. "Boss Luna is a bit impatient, and you know what happens when she is like that."

"Yeah."

Oh, right. It seems these two don't have a friendly relationship. If I recall correctly, that day Lara called Warren a coward... I wonder why these two hate each other so much.

We both walked through the door; the place that greeted us was a large space that looked like some kind of warehouse. On the ceiling, metal beams supported transparent panels allowing sunlight to pour in and illuminate the area. The floor was littered with wooden boxes; however, in the center were three tufted leather sofas and a long rectangular wooden box that served as a table.

What caught my attention the most was the back of the space, a second level supported by black metal bars, accessible by metal stairs. That second floor surrounded the entire space, packed with more wooden boxes.

"Welcome to my lair, stranger," a delicate and melodic voice greeted us. It was so high-pitched that it sounded like a little girl's voice.

As we approached, I saw a small silhouette on top of the rectangular wooden box that served as a table. Lara sat on one of the nearby wooden boxes, crossing her arms and pretending to be uninterested.

The small person who greeted us had long silver hair that shone beautifully. Her green eyes were similar to Miss Noir's, with the only difference being that they were filled with joy. She wore a long black dress with a white collar and sleeves, resembling a maid's dress. On her head she had a shark-shaped hood, black like her dress, with white dots on the edges similar to teeth. Finally, she was wearing small Mary Jane shoes, which further accentuated her cuteness.

As we got closer, the little girl spoke once more: "My name is Luna. Nice to meet you, Mila Velerth," she said with her eyebrows arched downwards and a big smile on her face. As she smiled, I noticed small, sharp teeth.

She extended her small hand towards me, clearly expecting me to shake it. However, I hesitated.

What? 'This girl is Boss Luna?' I thought in confusion; I was expecting someone more... Wild. However, that was not the only cause of my hesitation. Seeing her tiny figure and limbs, she looked so cute that I couldn't help but pet her tiny head. How adorable.

Warren, who was standing next to me, shot me a warning glance that screamed, "Don't forget what I told you!"

Oh right... I shouldn't smile or show affection to her, right? But looking at her, she looked so innocent that I couldn't help but think, "What harm could this little angel do?" Seeing such a creature, I could only picture us playing together; I could totally become her big sister.

Luna tilted her head slightly to the side, clearly confused; however, she kept her hand outstretched.

"Ahh... Yeah, nice to meet you, hehe!" I finally said, shaking her tiny hand... However, I couldn't help myself.

After shaking her hand, I instinctively reached for her head and gently stroked it. Gosh, she was so cute that not doing so would have been a sin.

"Warren, why didn't you tell me that Boss Luna was such an adorable little girl?" I exclaimed while still caressing Boss Luna.

"M-Mila, what are you doing?" Warren yelled, yet his voice sounded distant.

"Huh?" I turned around and noticed that Warren was no longer standing next to me. He was hiding behind a wooden box.

"You're dead..." Lara said, also hiding behind a wooden box. Both of them looked like they were afraid of something.

"What's wrong with you guys? I just thought this little girl was adorable."

Sniff sniff.

"Hmm?"

When I looked at Luna once more, she was crying. Tears were running down her delicate cheeks as she sobbed.

"Sniff... I'm not... Sniff... a little girl, sniff... I'm eighteen years old!"

"Huh? Ah! I... I'm sorry!"

Luna continued to cry, but suddenly I heard Warren speak to me in a voice full of urgency and panic: "Mila, run for your life!"

"What?"

When I looked back at Luna, she had stopped crying, but her head was down, making it impossible to see her expression. All I could see was her small fist shaking in anger.

Oh no...

Her entire body began to glow bright green, and suddenly…

"Wrrahhhr!" Luna leaped at me, with her hands outstretched while foam was spilling from her mouth like a wild animal.

"Ouch, ouch! L-Luna? AHHHH! HELP MEEEEE!"

Boss Luna began biting me everywhere. Her tiny, sharp teeth were as painful as little knives. The only thing that could be heard in the room was my scream of pain.
