Monday, the cool morning breeze made my eyes feel extremely heavy as I headed to school; it had been two days since the incident in that abandoned building.
"I hate Monday mornings," I said as I yawned.
I wore my school uniform, which consisted of a white shirt and a red skirt, along with my trusty red fedora. The only difference would be the bandage I had on my left cheek.
As I walked through the streets of Star City, the facade of the school appeared before me; it had white walls, windows painted in gold, and a dome with a star on top. This was Star Academy, one of the most prestigious schools in the city.
I entered through the school gate surrounded by many other students; I looked around cautiously, but everything seemed normal. Apparently, I was the only one who had a wild weekend.
However, there was something that caught my attention. The girls looked unusually cheerful; many were overjoyed. They were muttering things like:
"Did you know? Apparently, he's coming to this school!"
"Yeah, I can't believe it!"
"Kya!"
I wonder what they're talking about. Did something good happen? And who is that person they're talking about? I had no idea. Without further ado, I headed to my locker, put my things away, and went to my classroom.
Every Monday morning, the star academy holds an assembly in the gymnasium; they sing the anthem and announce the schedule of the week. But I decided not to go and headed straight to my classroom. Honestly, I wasn't in the mood to listen to a long, annoying speech.
When I arrived, the classroom was empty; the silence made me feel calm and at peace. Okay, I admit it; I just wanted to take a light nap. Soon the students returned to their respective classrooms once the brief assembly was over.
"Mila! What happened to you?"
"Huh? Oh, this? It's nothing; I just got hurt while running, haha." What a lame lie.
"Jeez, you need to be more careful. Don't you know a girl's face is priceless? How careless can you be?" said Gris, her eyes looking worried behind her square-framed glasses.
The classroom quickly filled up as we waited for our class's homeroom teacher, Miss Noir, to start today's first class. Meanwhile, Gris kept scolding me. Sometimes I don't know if she's my friend or my mom.
A few seconds before the bell rang, Claire entered the classroom, the last person I wanted to talk to at that moment.
"What do you expect from a gorilla like Velerth? You know the saying, 'A monkey, even if it's dressed in silk, is still a monkey,'" said the annoying brat, mockingly weaving her golden curls.
"H-Hey!"
"Fufufu, don't be upset, Velerth. "I'm just telling the truth!" Claire replied with an air of superiority.
Seriously, how annoying can this girl be? I didn't want to stoop to her level, but she left me no choice. Claire is very pretty, but that annoying personality of hers ruins her beauty. Too bad. However, what she doesn't know is that I'm aware of her weakness; during swimming lessons, I've noticed how she looks at other girls' busts and then looks at her own in disappointment.
I know it's a dirty move, but I have no choice; besides, she was the one who initiated it.
"You're incredibly talented, Claire; your sharp vocabulary is intimidating, and I don't think I can beat you."
"Oh? Well, at least you acknowledge my superiority, Velerth; that's progress. Now if you excuse—"
"However, Claire, it seems that same sharp tongue cut through your small breasts... table Chan-Ops, I mean, Claire."
Claire stood still; a shadow covered her eyes, and her hand trembled as she held it in the air. Gris looked back and forth between the two of us nervously as all the other students in our class watched intently, waiting for a fight.
A vein bulged on Claire's forehead as she gritted her teeth. The petite girl screamed in uncontrolled anger, "That's it! I'll kill her!" Everyone in the class began chanting, "Fight, fight, fight."
Claire charged towards me with her small hands raised as if she were a velociraptor, but one of her best friends, Yanis, a chestnut-haired girl with a French bob hairstyle, picked her up as if she were a child.
"L-Let me go, Yanis! I'm going to teach Velerth a lesson!" Claire said, kicking the air with her small feet. Ha! How immature.
"Claire, remember! Today is a special day. We can't ruin our image. We must look neat," Yanis reminded Claire.
"Oh! Right. I totally forgot! My prince is on his way! and I need to be charming and beautiful for him." Claire pulled out a bottle of perfume and began applying it with exaggerated enthusiasm.
Cough cough. "Your prince?" I asked curiously.
Claire gave me a look full of disdain. "You don't know, Velerth?" Well, coming from a gorilla like you, I'm not impressed."
Grrr, I hate this girl.
"The famous young model, Warren, transferred to this school."
"Kyaaa!" The girls, upon hearing Claire, collectively cried out, elated. Warren? Who's that? I've never heard of him.
Claire continued to speak with much greater excitement: "At first I thought it was just a rumor, but this morning I saw him talking to Miss Noir. Do you know what that means? He'll be in our class!"
"Kyaaaaaa!" Once again the classroom exploded with the deafening screams of the girls. But the boys were visibly upset.
I looked at Gris and noticed she was blushing. Amazing! Even Gris was looking forward to meeting that boy. He must be really handsome, as the girls say.
At that moment, Miss Noir entered the classroom with her usual tired expression. Everyone immediately went to their seats, and the entire classroom fell silent.
"Gosh, what's all that noise so early, girls? Don't tell me Velerth has infected you with her virus."
Virus?
Miss Noir continued, "Oh, right, a new student will be joining the classroom today, so make him feel welcome." Then, looking at the door, she said, "Come in, Warren, and introduce yourself to your new classmates."
A young boy entered the classroom with firm and confident steps. He had black hair, pale skin, a patch over his right eye, and black gloves on both hands. However, he wasn't wearing the school uniform and instead was dressed in a black suit.
What caught my attention was the strange symbols on the patch and on both gloves; the first one looked like a combination between a spiral and a sun, and the second one looked like a creature with sharp teeth smiling.
Although I admit that he is handsome, I must say he is not my type, but I can tell a boy like him could easily steal any girl's heart.
With a focused look, Warren scanned the entire room and, with a deep and pleasant voice, said, "Hello everyone, my name is Warren Monson Germai; from now on we will study together, so please take care of me." He smiled slightly and added, "Let's get along, OK?"
"Kyaaaaaaa!" The girls screamed in excitement, while the boys were growling louder.
Miss Noir sighed, "Too much noise... Okay, Warren, let's see... Oh! How about you sit next to Velerth?" She's the girl with the red hat."
What? Next to me?
Warren and I exchanged glances. But his eyes turned cold as if he was looking at an enemy. I immediately had a bad feeling, as if this guy was someone dangerous.
