Vorn spotted that there were five members of the Fangs, so he chased after one of them alone, dashing with incredible speed, leaping from roof to roof.
That left eight of them to chase down the remaining four.
"With me, Rookie," Ruth said from beside Seth, as she ran after one of the Fang members.
The others quickly paired up and chased after the others.
Finally. I'm going to get to watch a battle between two Anointed.
Ruth ran ahead of him and leaped a large gap between two buildings, sprinting across the flat rooftop.
Seth knew there was no room for hesitation, so he jumped and rolled upon landing.
He found that his body took the impact much more easily than it would have been able to before.
He also ran faster, jumped higher, and had much more stamina, though he had figured that out during training.
The Fang member they chased was a man, and though they couldn't see his face, it was obvious that he was taller than even Ruth.
With every rooftop they leaped, they edged closer to him; however, they had strayed from their fellow Lambs to the point where they could hardly see them.
However, sounds of battle and gunshots echoed through the rooftops of Rosebury, and below them, Seth could see pedestrians looking around and running in fear.
I can't focus on them right now; one mishap, and I fall to my death.
Suddenly, while Seth was distracted, the man in the air spun as he leaped across a building and drew a sixgun mid-maneuver.
"Watch out!" Ruth shouted, as the man fired his gun.
Bang!
Seth was mid-jump when the bullet was fired, leaving him with no way to dodge.
Acting fast, faster than should have been possible, as though she had moved with supersonic speed, Ruth drew her own six-gun and fired to the side.
Bang!
A sharp ringing sound echoed through the air, and Seth landed safely on his feet, the chase continuing.
What on earth happened? He wondered, not able to comprehend what had just taken place.
But it was perfectly obvious to Ruth, as it happened as she intended.
Knowing that Seth would be unable to dodge the bullet, she used Blight to increase her speed to inhuman levels, as well as enhancing her senses to fire her gun with pinpoint accuracy.
The bullet she fired collided with the one shot by the man who had aimed for Seth, sending his bullet off course and saving the rookie's life.
She cursed at herself for using so much Blight to save the life of a rookie, but she knew she couldn't help it; it was in her nature to protect the helpless.
Finally, the man they were chasing stopped on a large, flat rooftop and turned to face his pursuers.
Ruth arrived first and stopped on the other side of the roof, facing off with him, while Seth arrived later and stood behind her.
Seth got a better look at the man.
He was white, with blond hair that was well-kept, giving him a pristine and proper appearance.
He was over six feet tall and lean-built.
"Hello there, members of the Lambs. I am Philip. Care to give me your names before we do battle?" the man shouted from across the roof.
Ruth let out a mocking laugh as she fired two shots from her six-gun.
Bang! Bang!
The man dodged them with ease, simply moving his head to allow the bullets to slip past him, displaying the reaction speed of a powerful Anointed.
"He's strong, Rookie. Stay back and don't get involved. I'll show you what a true battle looks like."
Ruth placed her gun back into its holster and removed her coat, throwing it to the side.
She wore trousers that allowed her to move freely and a simple white shirt.
The Fang member, Philip, kept his white jacket on and crouched into a ready position. Ruth did the same.
They stayed that way for a moment, staring each other down. And then it started.
Ruth disappeared.
Seth truly believed that she had vanished into thin air, as she was nowhere to be seen.
Philip, however, must have seen it, as he drew a small knife from his jacket pocket and hurled it with speed.
The blade flew straight at first, before impossibly curving and swerving, hitting an object in the air.
As it collided, Ruth was revealed, sweating, with the knife sticking out of the palm of her hand.
She had somehow been hit.
She stood there, panting as blood leaked from her hand, and Philip took advantage of this.
He dashed forward and drew his six-gun again, firing at Ruth, but she vanished again.
In the air, Seth could see drops of blood splattering all over the rooftop in a random pattern, and he finally realized what was happening.
She's running so fast that my eyes can't keep up with her!
The bullet hit the ground, missing its target.
Ruth suddenly appeared behind the man and delivered a double palm strike to his back, sending him tumbling across the rooftop.
However, her attack wasn't finished. With speed, she chased after his tumbling form and kicked him in the stomach, sending him flying even further through the air.
Seth couldn't believe the power she had mustered, as the man had truly been lifted into the air by the attack.
Is Phillip this mismatched?
Ruth followed up again with her speed, drawing her six-gun and firing at the man as he fell through the sky.
Bang! Bang!
Both bullets hit their mark, sending blood splatters through the air before the man crashed to the surface of the rooftop in a crumpled heap.
Seth stood there in awe at the speed of the battle and realized the heights he had to reach.
And this might have just been a battle between two low-rankers. How strong is someone like Vorn? And are there others even stronger?
The possibilities of blight are truly vast..
Ruth stood there and pulled the knife from her hand without reaction.
Blood stained her white shirt, and she was drenched in sweat.
Her heavy breathing indicated that using her abilities had tired her.
"That..." she said between breaths, "is how the Anointed fight."
