Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Shadows of the Past

The morning sun barely touched the horizon when Zhao Tian stood at the edge of the Azure Sky Sect's tallest peak. His gaze wandered over the vast expanse of forest, mountains, and rivers that stretched before him. For the first time in months, a sense of unease gnawed at him. It wasn't just the looming presence of his enemies that troubled him—it was the weight of the Divine Descent Orb, which seemed to grow heavier by the day.

Since his alliance with Wei Zhen, things had become more complicated. Every faction seemed to have its own interest in the orb, and now, the entire sect was waiting with bated breath for the next move. Zhao Tian knew it wasn't just the external threats that posed danger—it was the shadows of the past that were beginning to resurface.

Scene 1: A Visit from the Past

Zhao Tian's moment of solitude was interrupted by the sudden arrival of a visitor. It was none other than Elder Chen, a quiet but deeply respected figure within the Azure Sky Sect. Elder Chen had been one of the original founders of the sect and had long since retired from active duty, choosing instead to meditate in seclusion.

However, today, the old man came with a troubled expression etched into his face. Zhao Tian greeted him with respect, though his instincts told him that something was wrong.

"Zhao Tian," Elder Chen began, his voice gravely serious, "I've come to warn you. There are things about the Divine Descent Orb that even I don't fully understand, but I know its origins. Long ago, it was not just a tool of power—it was a seal, a lock placed upon something far more dangerous than any of us could fathom."

Zhao Tian frowned. "A seal? What do you mean?"

Elder Chen sighed deeply. "The orb was created to keep something locked away, something ancient. Its power was not meant to be wielded by any one person—it was meant to be hidden, forgotten. When it fell into your hands, I feared that you might awaken the forces it kept in check."

Zhao Tian's heart raced. Could this be the reason Wei Zhen had warned him so vehemently about the consequences of using the orb? Could he truly be unleashing a catastrophe?

Scene 2: The Infiltration

As Zhao Tian tried to digest Elder Chen's cryptic words, a new threat emerged. That evening, as the sect prepared for another training session, a sudden disturbance was felt. The wards that protected the sect were breached, and a group of cultivators stormed the gates.

Zhao Tian was immediately alerted to the presence of the intruders. He ran toward the front gates, where he found Liu Qingyun and several disciples already engaged in battle.

The enemies were unlike any Zhao Tian had seen before. Their cultivation was on a level that far surpassed the average cultivator—Elder-level cultivators—and they wore no insignia. Their leader, a tall man with crimson robes, stood at the forefront, exuding an air of malicious power.

"You've kept it hidden well, Zhao Tian," the man said, his voice low and menacing. "But now, it's time to give it back."

Zhao Tian's eyes flared with anger. "Who are you?"

The man smiled coldly. "We are the Eclipse Sect—and we have come for the Divine Descent Orb."

Scene 3: The Battle for the Orb

The battle that ensued was fierce, with the cultivators of the Azure Sky Sect struggling to hold their ground against the Eclipse Sect. Zhao Tian, his body infused with the power of the Divine Descent Orb, fought with incredible ferocity. His energy crackled like lightning, overwhelming his opponents with devastating strikes.

Liu Qingyun and the other disciples fought valiantly, but the Eclipse Sect's strength was undeniable. One by one, Zhao Tian watched his comrades fall back, outmatched by the overwhelming power of the invaders.

"You'll never leave with it," Zhao Tian shouted, his sword raised high. "This orb is mine to protect!"

But the leader of the Eclipse Sect only smirked, his eyes gleaming with cruel amusement. "The orb was never meant to be in your hands, boy. You've played your part. Now, step aside."

Just as the battle seemed to tip in favor of the invaders, Wei Zhen appeared, flanked by a group of her own allies—powerful cultivators, their eyes sharp with determination. They immediately joined the fray, turning the tide of battle.

"Zhao Tian," Wei Zhen called, "we can't defeat them in direct combat. We must retreat and regroup. They came prepared."

Zhao Tian, though enraged, recognized the truth in her words. He barely had time to signal his disciples to retreat before the Eclipse Sect's forces unleashed a devastating array of attacks, forcing the Azure Sky Sect to fall back to the inner sanctum.
