Chapter 2 - The invitation

Daniel slowly opened his eyes, confusion etched on his face.

"Where am I?" he thought, scanning his surroundings.

Moments before, he'd been in his office; now, he found himself in an unfamiliar suite.

The room was dimly lit, with only moonlight illuminating the glasses on the left side. A corpse lay on the bed, its body in an advanced state of decay, with pus oozing out. Daniel's gaze locked onto it, his body tensing. He struggled to comprehend his situation.

"How did I get here? Is this a dream?" he muttered, his trembling body revealing his inner turmoil. A strange, ominous feeling pressed down on his heart.

As an auxiliary police staff member, Daniel had heard about recent cases of mysterious disappearances. One of his friends, Robert, had also vanished just like that. Daniel recalled receiving a cryptic message - a call for help from Robert at the time, accompanied by an invitation in the form of a link attached to the message on the messagerie app.

Daniel's gaze shifted to the mirror. His reflection showed a man with short black hairs, a white shirt, black camouflage pants, and black leather boots. Without his usual cap, his facial features were visible, giving him a youthful appearance.

He noticed a small white envelope in his pocket, adorned with silver bands forming pupiless eyes. The symbol stirred strong emotions, feeling familiar yet elusive. Inside, he found two cards: One white looking quite ordinary, and the other shining with it's silver color, they all shared the same motive of the pupiless eye on one side while on other were some incomprehensible set of line that gave both the sensation of chaos and order as one looked at them.

It was also about that time that a strange bluish screen appeared in front of Daniel.

As his gaze moved away from the two cards, the floating screen disappeared.

At this moment, Daniel's expression become complicated with a deep frown and a pensive looks, disbelief was written on his face, as a thought struck him.

" I'm inside a game!"

It was too ridiculous, to the point that he could hardly believe. But here he was, in this strange situation.

If it was a dream, he should had not been this self conscious, at least he should have been unable to read or to control his body perfectly but now he was pretty elf conscious and at the same time unable to leave the "dream".

Some information that he still remembered before awakening in this place flashed inside his mind. The disappearance case, the powerlessness of the polices...

" If it is really, it must be more complicated than it looks like" Daniel muttered to himself before his gazes once again wondered around the suite, full of suspicion.

Apart from the corpse on the bed, there were absolutely, no other trace of life, but it did not make Daniel reassured at all.

He was quite tense as he noticed the door that led outside of the suite, where darkness prevailed...

Which unknown dangers prevailed outside of this room, he did now know...

Daniel gulped, the sound echoed somewhat loudly in the silence of the room.

There was saying, in Rome do as Romans do...

In this case, it be applicated quite simply.

" If you find yourself inside a game, act like a player should"

Daniel lampooned inwardly at the thought.

His gaze finally settled on the cards in his hands.

He had already decided to use them, in order to increase his safety.

The corpse on the bed, seemed like a cual warning of the dangers of this world...

And Daniel who was quite apprehensive at the idea of leaving this room for the time being was forced to keep compagnie to the corpse.
