Chapter 2 - Return

Hearing those words from the system, Ming Yue wanted nothing more than going out and rejecting it outright.

Unfortunately, she was on a different bed and couldn't move at all!

The only relief at this moment was that she could faintly hear Grandma Shen's voice drifting over.

Since she hadn't met any family members except Grandmother Shen and lived inconspicuously, it was impossible to recognise any other voice.

"Ah Cheng, I have only one wish. I... I'm not asking you to treat Yue as your own... daughter, just... please take her back with you and... look after her from now on..."

On the hospital bed, the old woman tightly gripped the man's hand, her tone clearly pleading.

Deep wrinkles creased her forehead and the corners of her eyes. Her hair was streaked with silver, and she spoke with difficulty.

On a nearby bed with only a swaying curtain seperating them lay a young girl with a pale complexion.

Her eyes seemed to flutter as she was startled awake from those words.

Though the immense grief of the original owner overwhelmed her.

Her almond-shaped eyes were swollen and red. Perhaps from crying previously or because of the lack of proper nutrition and sleep.

When she first heard the old woman's words, she didn't quite process them.

A few seconds later, her eyes widened in shock.

'That system really wasn't lying!!'

She cursed inwardly, but couldn't do anything else, being forced under the feelings of the original Ming Yue.

At least until Grandma Shen was still alive...

The hospital room, which had been filled with quiet sobs, suddenly fell silent. Before the person on the bed could wonder why, the heart monitor flatlined.

Apparantly her last wish was something no one in that family wanted to follow.

They weren't completely nad people, at elast her son wasn't, as he was ready to take on this responsibility without any complaints.

He didn't care about his wife's, son's or recently found daughter's opinions.

That was his mother's last wish and he wasn't going to be an unfilial child to her.

But...!

Ming Yue herself didn't want that!

She only had memories of being abroad with Grandma Shen and no one else.

So why would she foolishly follow a wealthy family when even the original owner didn't want to?

And she had seen her share of woes of wealthy families in her past life.

Of course, Ming Yue had lived quite comfortably under the care of Grandma Shen.

The interest alone from her savings account was enough to support a good lifestyle.

Although the original owner was deeply saddened by Grandma Shen's passing—after all, she was her only relative in this world—Ming Yue had also envisioned her future.

She planned to live alone in her current villa, find a job somewhere, as she had enough money to support herself anyway.

However, surely the Shen Family wouldn't be so heartless as to take back the villa, right?

'But it doesn't really matter to me as I can still live a good life without the villa or any other assets.'

Yes, she wasn't the original owner and was skilled in almost everything.

Aside from it being a basic requirement for a Spy, she was the daughter of an old wealthy family.

Her family could be counted as one of the few old moneys across the nation.

Her grooming was extremely strict, allowing her to be better than majority at anything after just a few hours of hard work.

Naturally, she was talented as most would break under such pressure.

However, it seemed her wish wasn't going to come true...

Though she had thought through hundreds upon thousands of scenarios, she just couldn't understand why she was already on a plane back to China.

On the Shen Family's private jet.

The gazes of the Shen Family members occasionally fell on Ming Yue, who looked distraught as if her whole life had collapsed.

But don't go on her facial expressions, her mind was hyperactive.

'Nooooo!!!! Why do I have to go back??'

'I could easily live my whole life in this country!'

'Why do I have to be forced to go there?!'

'Hey, system! When will I be able to do what I want??'

[Host, I don't know what you are talking about? You could've clearly rejected it but you accepted it yourself(?)]

'Huh? What do you mean? Clearly, it was...'

Just as she tried to reason with the system, it was cut off from her, unable to hear about her reincarnation and everything related to it.

Like a barrier seperated them, the two were oblivious to each other's voices.

Unaware of her tumultuous thoughts, she was being glared at by an older man.

He was the son of the Shen couple and elder brother of Shen Pei'er, who had been recently found.

In his eyes were clear resentment for this substitute who was tryig to take over his sister's position.

Without even knowing anything, he blamed her.

Similar to him was Shen Pei'er but she was mroe discreet, wanting to appear magnanimous by letting Ming Yue stay.

After all, her persona couldn't collapse just because of this fake daughter, right?

Close to them was their mother who looked especially displeased with her husband but remained silent.

She knew better than to voice her thoughts as her husband had just lost his mother.

However, her son was a bit too hasty.

"Dad! There's no need to take her home...!"

Before be could complete his words, he felt a chill run down his spine as he met eyes with his father.

In truth, he was afraid of his father, but didn't want to admit it.

Currently, his father wanted nothing more than sealing his son's mouth shut.

He knew better than anyone why he was talking this girl home.

While on the surface, it was to appear filial and heed his mother's last wish, he had other reasons as well.

But Ming Yue was unaware of all this scheming behind her back.

Even if she knew, she wouldn't care.

In her eyes, it was all child's play.

What she was worried about was the unresponsiveness of the system.

'Oi, System? Where djd you go??'
