Linda's POV
The strategy was straightforward: approach Nathan's inner group, obtain information, and then flee without being discovered. It sounded simple enough, but everything felt considerably riskier now that we were inside.
Trying to look like we belonged, Kevin and I strolled through Nathan's slick headquarters lobby. Every stride I took made my heart accelerate, and I could feel the pressure of the circumstance mounting on my chest. Nathan was dangerous, and we wouldn't be the only ones in trouble if we made a mistake.
As we walked, Kevin said, "Remain focused," his hand grazing mine. He looked around the room, searching for any indication of disaster.
I said, "I am," even though I didn't feel it. Everything felt more like a high-stakes game the closer we got to Nathan, and I wasn't sure if I was prepared to win.
Kevin looked at me and said, "Are you sure you're alright? If you're not prepared, we don't have to do this.
