The tiny metal key, whose smooth surface seemed to have been worn by the weight of innumerable secrets, was in my palm. Leaning over the table, Kevin gazed at it as if it would solve its riddles. His forehead wrinkled in exasperation.
His voice was strained as he said, "This has to lead somewhere important." "Unless they have a purpose, Nathan doesn't keep things like this around."
I swallowed the lump in my throat and nodded. However, where? We have looked into every possible connection, but we are still at a standstill.
Kevin rubbed his temples and moaned. "Give me a call, Ben. This type of puzzle suits him well.
With my heart racing, I paced the little living room as Kevin made the call. With each second that went by, the walls seemed to close in. Nathan would continue to be ahead of us if we didn't quickly understand the meaning of this key.
