Linda's POV
The only sound coming from outside the cabin was the wind rustling through the trees. I watched Kevin pace back and forth while I sat on the couch. I could see he was having trouble finding the correct words because of the tight expression on his face. As I waited for him to say something, my heart was racing. I was aware that a significant event that would alter everything was imminent.
Kevin paused in front of me and said, "Linda," in a quiet, solemn voice. "I have something to share with you. I should have informed you long ago, but I was scared.
"Afraid of what?" With my guts in knots, I asked.
He was annoyed with himself as he combed his hair. "I'm worried about losing you. I'm afraid you wouldn't look at me the same way if you knew the truth."
I scowled, feeling both scared and perplexed. "What's the truth, Kevin? What do you have to conceal from me?
