Chapter 4 - Mr. Not a detective

A police officer sighed and spoke.

"That kid was a real something right."

Another replied.

"Yeah he didn't tell us Jack stuff. He also said that he got lost all the way the other side of the state."

The two of them conversed.

"He even said it to his father and so casually at that. Seriously if he wanted to run away he could have just said so."

"His father was weird too did you hear how he was talking. It was like he was taking pity on an injured dog."

"And even the..."

The man at the end of the room stood up and started chuckling which eventually sparked into a full blown laughter.

His black top hat had fallen off as he laughed facing the ceiling, exposing his brown chest long hair.

He covered his face by pressing the flat tips of his fingers onto his forehead to further extenuate the drama of the laughter.

Then he ceased his laughter with his fingers still in place and looked at the two policemen.

"I smell a true mystery."

His eyes were wide open like his brain was processing things at 200 percent.

"And I'm going to get to the bottom of it."

He said.

The two officers began conversing again.

"The mad man's gone mad again. Should we call the captain."

"I think we should call him. I don't think I can handle him like this."

They got on a call leaving the detective drowning in thought.

Ringing...[Hello] "Hello captain. The detective's going insane again."

The man at the end of the line sighed.

[Just tell him that if he doesn't comply and do his job then we'll have to fire him]

The detective sparked into laughter once more. This time it sounded rather ominous.

They replied.

"With all due respect sir I don't think we can handle someone like him."

He sighed again.

[Just put him on the phone]

They put it on loudspeaker.

[Hey detective. You said that you'd comply if we let you keep your job so stop making a ruckus]

The detective turned only his eyes to look down at the phone in front of him.

"Now let's not get this mixed up captain. You said that you won't be able to keep me at work if I didn't comply. I have a hundred percent solve rate on my cases, so that means you need me. Not the other way around."

A short period of silence ensued.

[Fine then, I'll allow you to handle this case as a side case for a month only. After that you stick to our rules and do your job properly]

"No. Main case. 6 months."

[Detective you know that we can't let you at a useless case like...]

"It's either that or nothing."

Another short silence.

[Fine then. But only for six months. After that your free will belongs to department]

He didn't answer.

"I'll also need to be properly funded."

[Sigh. You'll get it. Just so you know, after that we are going to work you to death]

The detective picked up his hat.

"Detective Heimer..."

He walked to the door.

"On the case"

He walked out the door.

"Not that you'll be able to make me work then."

He whispered after he left the room with a look of disdain on his visage.

[This is gonna be a hard six months]
