Chapter 8 - Chapter 8:Mirage Beast

"Sitting on top of the Mirage Beast's clam shell, Lily looked up at the sky."

"As the Mirage Beast continued to swallow clouds and exhale mist, a clear path had appeared ahead, following Lily's command."

"The StarNet viewers in the livestream room were searching everywhere for the 'Mirage Beast'."

"My classmates and I were stunned. Lily's summoned beast could actually absorb this strange mist—who knew such a thing was possible?"

"But this beast can't be found in the StarNet encyclopedia either, just like that bird from last time. We don't know when the database will allow the information to be disclosed."

"Looking at the seemingly endless mist around her, Lily furrowed her brows. The competition only stated the rules, but never gave any hint about which direction the 'Beast Arena' was in. Clearly, there was no map or positioning on her personal panel either."

"No one could say for sure which direction the Beast Arena was in north, south, east, or west. The road stretched endlessly to the sky; where should she go?"

"Lily pondered. If it came to that, she could just randomly pick a direction and march forward with her chosen warriors. After all, she couldn't exactly create a divining rod to find the way, could she?"

"Wait... maybe it's not impossible? What if a blind cat stumbles upon a dead mouse?"

"Engaged in folk studies, Lily was knowledgeable in everything—from astronomy and geography to poetry, songs, life philosophy, religion, and even the everyday matters like food, household chores, and the basics of life."

"As for the divining rod, she had not only seen it before but had also used and studied it."

"Lily focused her mind. This time, when casting the dream, she didn't first create a brush but directly used her mental power to sketch the image of the 'divining rod' from her memory."

"Made entirely of brass, the divining rod had a simple cast shape. At first glance, it appeared to be just two sticks, but strange patterns were engraved on them."

"The divining rod slowly took shape in Lily's hands. The appearance of this strange object immediately left the livestream viewers even more confused."

"What... what... The 'Mirage Beast' from earlier hasn't been traced back to its origin yet, and now Lily has just forged another strange object. What is going on?"

"Could it be that this strange, bizarre object is also useful against the mist?"

"I think this object is probably used to control the summoned beast. What do you all think?"

"It's really too simple, like a metal rod from a primitive civilization."

"Lily manipulated the divining rod, chanting softly in her mind. The mist was thick, but there was no wind. She watched as the divining rod slightly twisted and trembled, pointing in a certain direction."

"Since the divining rod has already pointed the way, let's go."

"She raised her hand and patted the Mirage Beast beneath her. The white mist that the divining rod had just pointed to dispersed, fading away by half."

"The mist swirled around Lily as she leaped off the Mirage Beast, ready to set off."

"There was no other choice. The Mirage Beast, by its nature, had to live in the sea. Although Lily could temporarily summon it through dream-crafting, she was borrowing its power to absorb the mist."

"The viewers in the livestream room, seeing Lily finally begin her journey, seemed to have an epiphany."

"That strange object she summoned must be for pointing the way, right? Has anyone seen it before? Why is it another thing that no one knows about?"

"Well, I think it's safe to say that Lily is indeed a descendant of an ancient civilization. Every time she casts a dream, it's recognized by the StarNet, but none of us viewers know anything about it."

"As the viewers were talking, they saw Lily walking alone, leaving the Mirage Beast all alone in the clearing, still constantly opening its mouth to absorb the mist ahead of Lily. They were immediately left speechless."

"Wait, why isn't she taking the summoned beast with her? Or is this so-called Mirage Beast being disobedient???"

"What should we do? Suddenly, I feel so sorry for this summoned beast."

"Lily, holding the divining rod, moved steadily in the direction it pointed."

"Since she had made a choice, she wouldn't hesitate and would stick to it until the end. This was her consistent principle."

"With the Mirage Beast providing support from the rear, Lily advanced step by step as the white mist ahead continued to dissipate."

"Uooooo—"

In an instant, a beast suddenly emerged from the thin white mist. It stood half as tall as a person, with green eyes, a black body, and a short tail. Letting out a loud howl, it charged straight at Lily.

"Why did a beast suddenly appear? Is this the Green-Eyed Demon Wolf?"

"Is this Demon Wolf about to attack? But Lily's summoned beast is so far away from her... Is she about to be eliminated?!"

"Of course there are beasts! Haven't you checked out the other livestreams? Plenty of contestants have already encountered them. Sigh, don't even mention it—one of our contestants from Bird Star is being chased by a whole pack of beasts right now."

Lily had no idea what the livestream audience was discussing. Her body and instincts warned her that the danger was only just beginning.

Just like the Demon Wolf before her, it was not a solitary creature.

That howl just now was likely a call to its companions, summoning the entire wolf pack to converge on her.

If it came down to one versus many, things would get much more difficult.

Lily's eyes gleamed brightly. Seizing the moment while the lone wolf howled menacingly without reinforcements, she began weaving her dream!

She quickly recalled the information about the Green-Eyed Demon Wolf in her mind. This was part of the extensive material she had memorized during the ten-day training camp. The advantage of her exceptional mental strength lay in her ability to fully utilize her brain's capacity, allowing her to retain everything she had seen.

With swift movements, Lily began to sketch, her actions rapid and precise.

It had the body of a sheep but the face of a human, with enormous eyes located under its armpits. Its teeth were those of a tiger, and it sported strange claws. The moment the summoned beast took shape in the dream, a fierce, overwhelming aura of menace erupted.

The livestream audience immediately felt a chill run down their spines. What kind of creature was this? No, was it a beast-man? Just looking at it was enough to instill a sense of fear.

The strange creature appeared at Lily's side, standing about half the height of a person.

"I don't know why, but I'm a bit scared. It looks really weird, sob sob."

"To be honest, I feel the same way. It really looks like a fierce beast."

Just as many viewers were expressing their fear, the strange creature tilted its head toward Lily and then let out a childish cry.

"?That cry... wait, is it a cub? Can it fight?"

"At first, I was a bit scared by its fierce appearance, but that cry... it's so weak! Isn't that the sound of a human baby? Could it be that Lily's mental strength isn't enough, so she could only summon a cub?"

The cub shook its head and wagged its tail at Lily for a moment, then looked up at the Green-Eyed Demon Wolf ahead. Instantly, the pair of eyes under its armpits began to glow.

Its bright, shimmering eyes looked at Lily, as if asking something. The entire little beast's body seemed to be trembling with uncontrollable energy, as if it were about to charge straight at the Green-Eyed Demon Wolf to fight.

The sound of galloping grew closer, and as the white mist ahead began to dissipate, Lily gradually saw clearly it was a pack of wolves!

The pack of Green-Eyed Demon Wolves, numbering around twenty to thirty, was howling as it charged toward her direction.

She saw it, and naturally, the livestream audience saw it too.

That was dozens of wolves a whole pack.

This wasn't a one-on-one fight; wolf packs are creatures known for their unity and cooperation.

Just as the viewers who had been speculating whether the summoned beast was a cub or what kind of creature it was, they suddenly felt a sense of unease.

"Not good, it's one person and one beast against dozens of Green-Eyed Demon Wolves. You have to understand, these are one of the oldest creatures in the Gula Star Domain, the most ferocious kind of Demon Wolves. I'm already thinking of leaving the livestream, I don't want to witness a massacre."

"What is Lily thinking? Why doesn't she summon a flying bird and run? Why is she just standing there? Is she planning to fight the wolf pack with this little beast? Has she lost her mind? She should be running!"

"Let's make a bet. How many seconds can Lily's little beast last? Do you think it can defeat even one Demon Wolf? I bet it can't."

"This match is about to end in elimination, what's there to bet on? Pfft."

The pack of wolves gathered, and Lily immediately spotted the wolf king among them. As the alpha wolf assembled its pack, its dark green eyes were especially deep, and the fur on its head appeared even more profound.

With a fierce howl from the wolf king, the entire pack charged toward Lily at lightning speed.

At the same time, it seemed as though the little beast had received its master's permission. Excited, it let out a cry that sounded like a baby's wail.

The wolf pack was fast, but the little beast was even faster!

"Capture the leader to defeat the army." The little beast charged straight ahead, heading directly for the heart of the wolf pack—the wolf king.

Livestream viewers:"!

This little beast actually seems to have some real skill!"

The wolf king, in pain, lunged with its sharp fangs, aiming to sink them into the little beast.

However, the fangs couldn't penetrate at all.

The wolf king was held firmly in the little beast's bite, and in an instant, the entire pack of Green-Eyed Demon Wolves lunged toward the little beast.

The next moment, the half human sized beast opened its mouth wide, and the wolf king it had bitten was swallowed whole!

Livestream viewers:"What the hell?!

What kind of summoned beast is this?!"

A monstrous, gaping mouth appeared

It didn't need to chew or tear. With a single "howl," it opened its massive mouth and swallowed the wolf king whole.

After swallowing, the little beast smacked its lips, as if dissatisfied, before turning its gaze toward the remaining wolf pack.

In addition to the wolf king, there were still twenty-eight Green-Eyed Demon Wolves remaining.

With the wolf king swallowed by the little beast, the pack, now leaderless, immediately began to show signs of scattering.

The livestream viewers suddenly realized.

"I get it now! It's about capturing the leader—once the leader is gone, the subordinates scatter, all fighting for the position of alpha. Now, no wolves are coming to attack Lily!"

"I see now, I understand. The little beast ate the alpha, and the wolf pack is scared, too— they're not daring to approach for now."

If Lily could see the comments in her livestream chat at this moment, she would surely retort.

"No, you don't understand. You haven't figured it out."

Just as many viewers thought Lily should ride the little beast and continue her way toward the arena, no longer fighting the wolf pack, an unexpected change occurred!

Seeing the wolf pack about to scatter, the little beast curled its lips, looking quite displeased.

ts hooves pounded the ground as it charged forward, opening its massive mouth, and began chasing after the Green-Eyed Demon Wolves.

One after another, it devoured the little Demon Wolves, swallowing them whole with a single bite.

Livestream viewers:"!!!"

One after another, two, then three... all twenty-eight Demon Wolves were caught by the little beast and swallowed whole, with not a single one escaping.

After finishing its feast, the little beast leapt to Lily's side, chattering in a series of garbled sounds. However, its belly showed no change, remaining just as it was before.

Someone nervously typed a comment in the chat:"It... did it eat its fill?"

At the competition site, Lily looked at the grumbling, gluttonous creature beside her and helplessly spoke:"Not tasty?""Just consider it an appetizer, a little snack."
