Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

ABUJA

HUMAN AFFAIRS HQ

"I told you this would boil over Mark, I warned you", Kemi Blaq snapped, her pointed heels tapping on the polished floor as her equally pointed talons in the name of nails tapped on the glass of her wristwatch.

Mark paced the room full of busy people, going from table to table trying to get information on what they were on to.

"Sir! We found a location. The IP address is in a small village in Illinois", one of the technicians called Mark's attention, making the man rush over to his table where a huge screen displayed different numbers and codes.

"Lock it down. Put America on call!", He called out.

"We can contain this", he tried to assure Kemi.

"Contain? Mark look around you. These people were never supposed to know about supernaturals in the first place. It. Cannot. Be. Contained! It is out of our hands Mark. Religious bodies are taking interest and you know it goes downhill from there", Kemi scoffed.

"It was bound to happen anytime soon. Vampires are roaming the earth Kemi, vampires! You and I knew nothing about vampires, till now it was all a myth so before you start dishing out blames, have it in mind that your enforcers had nothing on those creatures, Ibuzo is our best bet right now", the man who had grown annoyed at Kemi's nagging snapped at the woman, causing her to chuckle sarcastically.

"Sometimes I wonder if you are really from this side of the universe, with the way you're quick to defend those vile things", Kemi snarled, causing Mark's gaze to harden on her.

"Good to know how that mind of yours works once in a while Kemi. What else do you think of those blood sucking demons?", He asked sarcastically.

Kemi looked him up and down, her anger clouding her senses or perhaps she was afraid of what was bound to happen.

"Don't come looking for me and my enforcers when this gets out of your control. Little wonder why you are unable to keep a woman", she scoffed, walking out of the room but Mark had to have the last word.

"And what about you Miss Naggy Kemi fucking Blaq, have you ever wondered why you've got no relationships, no friends and your colleagues hate your guts?", He called after her, making the angry woman to turn to him.

"It's because you have a smelly personality. You nag so much and you're impossible to reason with. Maybe you should work on that and just maybe you will stop being a lonely wench. Now if you don't mind, I've got a crisis to handle"

The stunned woman stormed out of the room, her figurative tail between her legs while Mark was left to beat himself up for going so far. The woman had it coming but he never wanted to hit that low, never with anyone.

His earpiece pinged and he sighed before picking up.

"Alpha team. Report"

The conversation between him and the other party drone on while the other workers kept at it. From his countenance, it was not happy information that he was receiving.

"Send off your best men. I want good news in four hours…"

He hung up and dished out more orders at his workers.

He knew he couldn't stop the war so he was going to bid his time until he ran out and by then, he would know who he's facing off but for now, he needed to stop the war cry that a stupid human was crying on the internet.

"Mark", Kim strdoe into the hall, her long coat flowing behind her.

"How's it going?", She asked after he acknowledged her with a curt nod of his head.

He sighed, rubbing his eyes tiredly.

"It's a disaster, honestly"

Kim hummed, looking around the room.

"The vampires are still roaming, you know. We should locate their base and take it from there. Maybe strike a deal with the devil", Kim spoke.

"How on Earth are we supposed to find vampires?", Mark asked the calm woman.

"Lure them in. Based on my knowledge that I acquired in the past few days, they cannot resist blood and they have been without for centuries so they are on the prowl and populated countries are their targets. Work with that", she suggested.

"They are said to be very fast creatures"

"We are not fighting them, not now at least. If it boils down to it, we use lead bullets. Time to test out that theory huh?", The woman asked.

"I guess. Take care of that, yeah? How busy is your station now?", Mark turned to look at the woman.

"It's horror movie season. We sure are watching a lot of those now. I could squeeze you in",

"Thank you Kim", Mark sighed appreciatively, making the woman hum.

"I better get back to it", she turned to leave the room, Mark behind her to stretch his legs.

"Oh, and Mark?", She turned around at the expectant man and with a quick swing, she landed him a hot punch to the jaw that burned the man's whole lower face so badly that he stumbled and fell on his ass.

"The fuck?!", He roared at the nonchalant woman.

The other person's present in the room paid little attention to what they were doing and turned to the drama behind them.

"My hand slipped honey", she sassed, a smirk dancing around the edges of her lips.

Mark still sat on the floor, cradling his burning jaw as he glared glaciers into the woman's body, only that she didn't give a hoot about his cold glare.

"Next time, have a good hold on that mouth of yours and I'll have a good hold on my hand, yeah?", Kim continued.

Realization dawned on the baffled man. This was a little revenge for his altercation with Kemi Blaq but what baffled him was the fact that these two women never seemed to agree on anything. He was even convinced that they have murder thoughts towards each other so why she was almost reconstructing his face for Kemi was beyond him.

"Don't you hate each other's guts?"

"I still do baby boy, I do so you'd understand my anger with how the grenade of a woman is trashing the whole building around and getting in my way just because you couldn't hold it in for another minute", she finally snapped.

She came to his level for a reason, part of it was to offer her help in the ongoing case but her main intention was to lash out at him for setting Kemi off. Their departments being closely placed made it unbearable for her when the woman stomped back from her visit to him with fire on her tongue and a seemingly newly installed train engine in the place of her lungs. Kemi was getting on her last nerve but she was human too.

Rumor had carried the gist about her interaction with Mark and despite not being a fan of the woman, she wouldn't supported a human being being ridiculed in as much as she knew that the hotheaded woman could have started whatever it was that brought about such harsh words from an otherwise calm Mark.

"I'm so...", Mark started but the woman was not done.

"Keep it for her for all I care. Just don't be telling people shit. You know how she is. All big mouth with a pinch of guts, the stupid woman. You are the last person that should be telling her shit, not with her fifty years old crush on you", she huffed and turned to walk out, leaving a wide eyed man.

"What?!", Mark squeaked.

Kim turned to him, her eyebrows raised high as if to tell him to stop the bullshit but the innocent confusion on the man's face told her all she needed to know.

"For such a smart man, you are the poster child for the word dumb", she scoffed, leaving him to his thoughts.
