Chereads / The Adventure of Shin Shin / Chapter 3 - No Escape

Chapter 3 - No Escape

After Ezekiel was discharged from hospital, he was sent to a care home and from there Ezekiel's life just went downhill. At the home he was mistreated, not fed the right foods and suffered from neglect from the people that were supposed to look after him. Even the other children had ostracised him.

Months later he remained in the home until he was adopted by his abusive uncle. His Uncle beat him every day and made his life miserable. By the time Ezekiel was seven years old, for him to stop getting hit, he was required to come to his uncle's bedroom before bed. This made Ezekiel scared and angry. He had no one to talk to. His uncle's actions began to reflect his behaviour in school. He was always getting in trouble a lot more, lashing out at his peers and sometimes even teachers. But it wasn't his fault, it was only natural for Ezekiel to do something like that, with all that he went through, but no one knew all the bad things happening to Ezekiel.

One night he had enough of his uncle's abuse. He knew he needed to escape, he'd been thinking about it for years, but he lacked the courage to do so, but he finally mustered the courage to go through with it. The next morning when Ezekiel left for school, instead of going to school he ran away as far as he could from his uncle. He ran to the nearest train station and since he had no knowledge of how to read train timetables, he jumped on the first train he saw. Once he was on the train he sat down next to this old man who was reading a newspaper. The old man had wrinkly skin, a receding hairline that starts at the middle top part of his head, which then had long white hair going backwards and a long grey beard, that went down to his chest. Ezekiel sat anxiously on the train, as it departed from its location. After a few stops, a ticket inspector had boarded the train and began inspecting everyone's tickets. For concept of having a ticket on the train was foreign to Ezekiel, so he sat there confused as the ticket inspector checked everyone else's ticket. As the ticket inspector approached Ezekiel, he began to tense up and began to shake. He thought that was where his escape would end and he was too scared to think about what his uncle would do to him.

"Tickets please." The ticket inspector said.

The old man put down his newspaper and handed the ticket inspector his ticket. The ticket inspector saw that Ezekiel was making no attempt to get his ticket out, so he asked Ezekiel, "Can I see your ticket?"

Hesitantly Ezekiel looked up at the ticket inspector. He could feel his hopes of escape slowly being dragged away from him.

"Sorry inspector, I must of lost my grandson's ticket. Each day I feel my memory getting worse. I'm so very sorry inspector." The old man sat next to Ezekiel said.

"It's alright Sir, I understand these things happen, so I will ignore it for today." The ticket inspector said before walking along.

Before the old man picked back up his newspaper, he smiled and winked at Ezekiel. Ezekiel didn't say anything back and continued fidgeting with his fingers.

After a few stops passed Ezekiel had got off the train. He was unsure where to go, so he followed the crowd, but a set of barriers, that required tickets to get passed, were obstructing his way. Therefore, Ezekiel had to find another way to get through. For a couple of minutes, he watched and worked out how the barriers operated. Finally, he concluded that he needed to sneak in behind someone else without the security spotting him. Once he saw an old man use his ticket to open the barriers Ezekiel quickly charged through the barriers before they closed and bumping into the old man in the process. Once through, he saw the security approaching him, so he quickly ran out of the train station.

"Freeze! Or we'll call the police!" One of the train station securities shouted at Ezekiel as he ran away.

Ezekiel kept on running and running, but unfortunately, he was in a very central area, so the police were local and were hot on his tail. There were two police officers, a man and a woman. As Ezekiel looked over his shoulder, he could see the two police officers closing the distance, so instinctively he charged into the main road, so it would be more difficult for the police to chase him, but Ezekiel was ignorant to the cars that were about to hit into him. Once again instincts took over as he began dodging the cars speeding at him so he could get across the road, but the police officers had called in reinforcements, there were four more of them, six in total chasing after Ezekiel, but Ezekiel wouldn't let himself be caught so easily, so he began running down the busy high street trying to dodge out the way of the plethora of people walking. Anxiously, Ezekiel checked his soldiers and saw a plethora of police right behind him, so he threw a bin on the floor to obstruct their course, then he took a left, into a busy shopping mall, so he could disappear into the crowd.

Ezekiel put his head down and tried his best to blend into the crowd, he looked behind him and saw the police officers searching aimlessly for him, whilst his stomach was growling in agony. It was crying out for food after the rush of adrenaline Ezekiel just had, so Ezekiel looked around the large shopping mall for somewhere to eat, but he had a big issue, as he had no money buy himself something to eat. Nevertheless, he still wandered around in search of something to eat. His search came to a quick end when he was met with a sweet cinnamon aroma. Mesmerised by the smell, he stood outside watching the restaurant. He knew he didn't have money, but the sweet scent was holding him captive and refusing to let him leave.

A man holding a box of mini pancakes walked out the restaurant and walked passed Ezekiel, as he did the sweet cinnamon aroma lingered in the air and took control of Ezekiel's mind because all he thought about was getting those box of min pancakes. Like a lion hunting its prey, Ezekiel snuck up behind the man and as fast as a cheetah, he took the box of mini pancakes and ran away as fast as he could. However, his instincts could only take him so far, because the man grabbed onto the back of Ezekiel's blazer and dragged him back and said, "kid those aren't your pass them back."

However, Ezekiel was too hungry to care, so he shrugged off the blazer and blasted out of the shopping mall and ran as far as he could.

Unfortunately, despite getting faraway from the shopping mall, he was lost. He reached an alley way; he decided to rest there for the night. He had been on foot for hours and it was really dark, and he was tired, but little did Ezekiel know, where he was, he wasn't safe. While he was sleeping, he was woken up by two masked men. Ezekiel stood up anxiously as the masked men began walking towards him, backing him into a corner. He looked around, but it was futile, he couldn't escape unless he went right through them. Adrenaline rushed through his body as he tried to charge passed them, but his attempts quickly ended in failure as one of the masked men put his hand out, which made Ezekiel come to an abrupt stop. Instinctively he jumped backwards, he was ready to fight for his life, but as the rain fell and started hitting his face, he looked up in the sky and began questioning, why he would bother fighting.

"My life has been nothing but hell, what use is there to keep on living." Ezekiel thought to himself.

As he looked back at the masked men, who let out a cathartic sigh. However, to his surprise, only one of the masked men stood before him, yet before Ezekiel's questions could be answered, he felt a sharp pain bat the back of his neck, then...
