Before we knew it. We encountered a door. Judging by the fact that this is a DAMN CAVE, there being a door here means it's a special part of the dungeon. "This door is unnatural" I warned them before examining the door

This door look weird. Maybe some pervert masochist made it and forgot about it. There's no way I'll believe a door in a cave would actually lead to something
That would not happen. Especially because this door is a fake... but I'm curious... What would happen if I turn the knob and opened it?

We entered the door... But... Since when were we inside a giant cube? No before that. Why is such a spacious white room inside a cave? No even before that... "Where's the goddamn door!?" The door disappeared behind us
"Scavenger-nim. Please lend us your knowledge" Red kneeled in front of me. Alice and Sato followed after him and kneeled as well
"It's obviously a bossfight"

"Prepare! We're fighting a powerful foe!"
Red gave it some thought and... Like hell I know what he's thinking. He's looking quite motivated for it though so I'm happy for him

"We're ready. Scavenger-nim" Red, why the hell are you being respectful now? If you could do that then do it from the start!
That said. They look like proper adventurers now. So they can do it if they try, I'm kinda proud of them... But enough about that. The boss is here

*Rumbling* the dragon causes mini earthquakes with every step. Do I wonder why the flying dragon is walking on land, dunno, plot I guess?
"The dragon in on the ground! Give it your all!" With my signal, running around the dragon, Sato, Red and I charged at the dragon's side belly
*Slice slice* My strikes obviously didn't damage the dragon's tough leather
*Slice!!* Whoa there Sato, chill... His attack scratched the dragon though
*Slice slice slice!* Red... His are faster than mine and half as powerful as Sato's. Damn Red, how do you do that with a longsword!?

Damage indicators exist for boss fights? That's a new function. It's actually pretty useful. That said... The damage we did can't kill a dragon. We need stronger cuts!

"No, you're just slow, Scavenger" Red kept slashing the dragon. It appears that he dodged the tail swing along with Sato
"Oh yeah!?" I ran towards the dragon to hit it again

The strategy was. Attack the dragon's soft side belly which doesn't have the scales protecting it. Jump when it uses the tail and run when it uses its mouth
A little trivia, Wyverns don't breathe fire like normal dragons do. They focus on flying high and having such high temperature flame inside of them would only be a hindrance because of temperature management
But wyverns are in no way inferior. They are smaller and they don't have firebreath, but they have what's called. Dive bombing. They dive on their target like a missile, abusing their powerful wings and jaw bones, they colide with the ground and it explodes!!
However for some reason this wyvern isn't flying. It probably wants to... Whatever, it's better that way

I wonder why I'm tasked to take care of them. What's so special about them? I guess their will to fight... But every adventurer has that. I admit, they're above average when it comes to that, but they're just second rate
They have talent, sure, but they'll be C rank at best. I don't know why the guild wanted these people to be trained. 'Why not train me instead?' is what I thought, but that's wishful thinking

So! Morning came and I made breakfast from the wyvern meat. Good thing I packed some seasonings just in case... And "viola! Braised wyvern coming up!"
"You can cook!?" Alice, stop insulting me
"I didn't know you can cook" Again, Red, surprised?
"So you can cook" what? Even Sato?
"Is it really surprising that I can cook?"
"Yeah. You look like a beggar from behind" Alice

And so. Sato gave me a bob haircut and we ate the braised wyvern meat

The conversation was going south so I took a nap

After the nap. We made a campfire before it got dark. The wood pops a little and we are on opposites of each other
Skewering the wyvern meat in our weapons, we put it above the fire, roasting them like marshmallows, as if this'll really get cooked that way
"You know? Doing this is just for the feels" I agree, Red. The feeling of camping in the woods, eating marshmallows and telling stories, only that it's silent, no one's talking, is different
"Should we tell stories? For more vibes?" I suggested, taking off the meat from the campfire, it wouldn't really cook anyways, and my hands are tired...
"Scavenger..."
"Hm? What?"
"I'm a hero"

"Really?" Red gave a smug smile. It was obvious he was one. His strength and talent for his age gave him away

Alice and Sato are still sleeping. Red and I are the only ones up "What else?"
Red laughed. "I'm speechless!"

"I wonder... Would people believe we killed a dragon? Like... Dragons don't come often. Just seeing one is rare. How do we even convince them-?"

"... What do you mean?" Red asked, following after scavenger, prying him for why. "Hey, Scavenger! What's with the 'was'?"

"D-don't say that ... We'll officially be a party after this! I'll tell the guild about you! It IS fun! And that's because you're there!"

"H-huh?" Red was shaken with what Scavenger told him. After that, Scavenger was silent, still has his back turned against him
"It's nothing" Scavenger finally turned around looking at Red in the eye. Scavenger smiled bitterly. Along his droopy eyes and neutral eyebrows, his mouth's on each end, reaching his cheeks
"S-scavenger?"
"Red ... Farewell"
"... what do you mean!?" Red lashed at Scavenger, pinning him on the ground. Scavenger's smile vanished. He just stared at him. "So!? Tell me why Scavenger!"
"Simple ... You're irritating"
"Grr!" Red got angrier at his nonchalant reply
"Ah, also"
"what!?"
"[ Chomp ]" Scavenger's mouth became that of a wolf and it opened as if about to bit off Red's head
"!?!" Red jumped in fear... But it was too late. Blood poured out and Red's head disappeared, the wolf had eaten it. His headless body fell on Scavenger which he pushed off of him...
