Jane sat alone in her new office, after Mikel was summoned by one of his employees for an emergency.
"Okay, here you are, Jane! This modern design... Wealth... Respect... All belong to you now. How satisfying!" She stated to herself gently and a smug smile made its way onto her face.
Before she could think further, her phone on the table, rang.
She glanced at the screen, then picked it up.
"Yes?" Her voice dropped to a whisper as she answered the call.
"It is done." A man's gruff voice came through the line.
Jane leaned back in her chair, a satisfied smirk tugging at the corners of her lips.
"Are you sure she got the message clearly?" She inquired.
"I made sure she understood every word." The man replied her.
"And there was no room for confusion?" She inquired further as she tightened her grip on the phone.
"None. She knows exactly what she needs to do. You should know you can trust me on such things." The man assured her.
"Perfect!" Jane exhaled slowly, her smirk widening.
She ended the call and placed the phone back on the desk. For a moment, she stared out the large window overlooking the city.
"Good!" She murmured to herself in excitement.
"My plan is falling into pleasant places. I can't wait to take the next step… I can't wait for the grand plan to manifest." She stated with a satisfied smirk as she stood and walked to the window.
"Victory is within my reach, and nothing will stand in my way now."

Alexis's consciousness returned slowly and before she could open her eyes, she heard a familiar voice.
"I can't believe this is happening? I mean, what went wrong?" The voice soliloquized and heaved a heavy sigh.
It was Mirabelle.
Alexis's eyes fluttered open slowly and the harsh light overhead made her blink rapidly.
Her mind was hazy, the events from earlier was a blur.
"Am I in heaven? Is this where I will finally find peace?" She wondered inwardly.
"Alexis!" Mirabelle's voice was filled with relief and joy as she noticed her friend had opened her eyes.
She quickly wrapped her arms around Alexis, hugging her tightly, despite being on the bed.
"Thank God, you are awake!" Mirabelle exclaimed as she pulled back, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
Alexis blinked again, feeling so confused. Then it hit her—the memory of the bridge, the cold water, the suffocating darkness.
"I… I didn't…" Alexis's voice was hoarse as she tried to speak.
"No, you didn't die." Mirabelle said, as if she could read her thoughts.
Before Alexis could ask any questions, Mirabelle's tone shifted, both angry and concerned.
"Why? Why would you try to kill yourself?" Mirabelle demanded angrily but there was concern in her tone.
Alexis sighed, her shoulders slumping. She sat up slowly, her body aching from the ordeal.
"I couldn't… I couldn't take it anymore, Mirabelle." Alexis admitted in a shaky voice.
Her friend narrowed her eyes at her in disbelief.
"Take what? What was so bad that you thought death was the only option? Because of Mikel's dirty affair? Why would you even think of throwing your life away because of a man who doesn't even care?" Mirabelle pointed out and scoffed in annoyance.
Alexis looked away, her gaze fixed on the white hospital wall.
"How did I even end up here?" She asked after a moment of silence.
Mirabelle hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath.
"I called you. I had a feeling something was wrong, so I kept calling your number."
Alexis frowned.
"But I left my phone…" She trailed off as Mirabelle nodded knowingly.
"Yes. A stranger went back to the car to check for any traces of contact and saw the phone. Apparently, he saw walking out of the car and as you jumped into the water. He was trying to call the last person you had called or had called you—and that was me." Mirabelle explained to her.
Alexis's heart sank.
"Why didn't he just leave me there? Let me drown?" She muttered in disappointment and Mirabelle's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Are you listening to yourself? Why would you even say that, Alexis? What is wrong with you?" She yelled in exasperation.
"Because…" Alexis tried to talk but her voice broke. She had to pause for a moment before speaking up again and Mirabelle listened with rapt attention.
"Mikel was my everything. He was my life. And now… now I have nothing." Alexis said and tears started streaming down her eyes.
Mirabelle shook her head, her expression a mix of frustration and compassion.
"No, Lexi. No man should be your everything." She maintained firmly.
Alexis gritted her teeth.
"You don't understand. My life is empty without him. I don't have anything to live for again." She said, shaking her head sadly.
Mirabelle scoffed, folding her arms across her chest.
"Well, your 'empty' life now has a reason to live." Mirabelle announced.
"It doesn't. It doesn't have any reason... No purpose. At all." Alexis insisted and her friend sighed heavily.
"That is because you don't know the latest development..." Mirabelle stated and Alexis furrowed her eyebrows cluelessly.
"What do you mean by that?" She asked, holding her friend's intense gaze.
At that question, a slow, knowing smile spread across Mirabelle's face.
"You are pregnant, Lexi. The doctor confirmed it earlier." She announced softly.
Alexis's eyes widened in shock and for a moment, she was rendered speechless.
"That can't be. You are kidding, right? Because you want me to believe that I shouldn't throw my life away?" She asked after finding her voice but her friend shook her head.
Mirabelle leaned closer to her as if that would make her announcement believable and repeated;
"You are pregnant with twins. Six weeks gone."
Alexis's mouth fell open, not knowing how to react to the news.
"What?"
"Now, is this a good news or a bad one?" She found herself blurting out.
