But the unexpected still happened. On the third day after Freyn's return, Alice was taken away by Charles. Cynthia still remembered Alice's painful cries.
"Didn't you already find the non-pure vampire? My brother is coming to pick me up today, let me go, let me go!"
Charles rudely grabbed the chains and dragged her as if she were a dog once again.
"Yes, we've found the non-pure vampire, and its power is comparable to an ordinary high-level vampire. Even without you or your brother, we could still subdue it."
Alice screamed and cried with all her strength, but it was useless. Cynthia heard the cries growing fainter and knew that Alice was going back to hell.
When Alice returned to the cell, she was already delirious, her clothes in disarray, bruises and slap marks on her face—burned deeply into Cynthia's memory.
"Don't! Don't come near!" Alice was almost delirious, her once-bright eyes now dull, switching between laughter and crying. Cynthia felt heartbroken.
"Alice..." Cynthia gently called out in a soothing tone, trying to calm the girl, who was in a state of madness.
At first, Alice resisted, but slowly she calmed down, and a semblance of rationality returned. Her face was full of sorrow.
"Why? Why is it like this when it shouldn't have been?" Alice was devastated, tears streaming down her face, leaving streaks.
"God, forgive my sins. My filthy body no longer deserves to exist in this pure world!"
Alice's eyes were bloodshot and filled with pain as she looked at Cynthia, but it seemed like she was staring at the iron bars in front of her.
Cynthia quickly realized what Alice was about to do and shouted, "Alice, calm down, don't do anything foolish, think about your brother, think about your brother!"
"Brother..." Alice's expression seemed to regain some rationality.
"I hate him! And I hate you! If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be like this!!" Alice screamed, her emotions spiraling out of control as she lunged at the iron bars.
Warm blood dripped onto Cynthia's face as the iron wire from the bars pierced Alice's forehead, going through her entire head.
Cynthia froze for a moment, watching the scene in front of her. It wasn't until blood dripped into her eyes, and the red veins on her face reappeared, that she seemed to forget how to suppress herself.
She let the violent aura run rampant inside her, her sharp teeth and claws grew wildly, and the cell was shattered with ease as she crushed one skull after another in her hands.
Cynthia fled, and so did Alice.
Hearing the noise, Alice quickly deduced that Cynthia had gone berserk. Although the plan had been moved up, Alice reacted quickly.
All along, Alice had been hiding her increasingly powerful strength, as the child in her womb seemed to carry a hint of magical energy, making her stronger than ever.
And this was something the research institute was unaware of, as they had always thought the child inside Alice was a non-pure vampire, whose growth usually required draining the mother's nutrients.
Just yesterday, Cynthia and Alice had planned to escape. In fact, Cynthia had hidden her true strength.
When she first arrived at the research institute, her violent aura after drinking human blood had been suppressed by half. Her true strength was comparable to that of a Vampire King.
Unexpectedly, the planned escape came early. After Alice joined the battle, they escaped from the institute together.
None of this would be revealed to Freyn. So, when he arrived at the research institute, what he saw was his dead sister.
He furiously raised his fists, wanting to kill Charles, but the gap in their strength was not significant, and Freyn could do nothing to Charles.
"Freyn, don't be so angry. Do you think you could see your sister in these past few days without me pleading for her?" Charles said with a mocking tone, not taking Freyn seriously at all.
Freyn nearly exploded. "But I've already given you the non-pure vampire! Why are you still treating her like this?"
Charles casually dusted off his hands as if Freyn's words meant nothing.
"She said she loved me. Did I force her?"
"Beast!!!"
"Freyn, you're all talk. If you had the ability, why don't you go against the research institute? Or better yet, why not take on the Hunter Association?"
"If you can't, then shut up, pitiful insect."
Charles looked down on Freyn from a higher position, sneering as he left.
Freyn looked at his dead sister, pain flooding his heart. He hated his helplessness. Against the powerful Hunter Association, he couldn't even ensure his sister's safety.
The blood on Alice's body had dried, but the blood hole on her forehead still reminded everyone of her helplessness in life.
Freyn gently picked up his sister's thin body. He never imagined so much could change in just half a month.
As Freyn left the cell, preparing to bury his sister, the people from the research institute clearly weren't going to let such bait leave easily.
A dull pain shot up his leg—tranquilizer darts! A dizziness hit his head, and Freyn lost his balance, falling forward.
Just before closing his eyes, he saw a flash of silver hair.
"Alice..."
When he awoke, the pain in his shoulder blades was sharp. Freyn blinked, trying to figure out what had happened.
He saw huge iron hooks pierced into his shoulder blades, through his muscles and clothes. Any attempt to raise his hand would send sharp pain through the wounds.
Freyn lowered his head weakly, the harsh sunlight burning his skin. The blood that dripped to the ground had long dried into stains.
"Am I really going to die?" Freyn thought to himself.
It's fair, he thought. As an older brother, he hadn't protected his sister, and perhaps this was his punishment from heaven.
Suddenly, Freyn thought of the red-haired woman, Cynthia, who always tilted her face up and showed her small fangs when she saw him.
He wondered how she was doing...
It was his fault after all.
The reason Charles had discovered Freyn's connection to the non-pure vampire was because Freyn had been wounded by a high-level vampire. His clothes had visible tears and blood, but there was no sign of injury on his body.
Plus, Freyn couldn't have single-handedly taken down a high-level vampire. This led Charles to deduce that Freyn was using a non-pure vampire for his purposes.
At a nearby stall selling magical potions, two small women in black cloaks were sitting. They looked like witches.
"Cynthia, are you really going to save him?" Alice frowned, seeming puzzled as to why Cynthia insisted on saving him.
"Yes."
The brief response made Alice a bit dissatisfied.
"What's your relationship with him? After all, it was him who sent you to the research institute."
"His sister was tortured like that, you know."
Remembering Alice, Alice also felt some pity. The people at the research institute were simply beasts, willing to harm their own kind.
But Alice couldn't understand.
"But it doesn't concern you."
Cynthia, hearing this, retorted, "Why doesn't it concern me? He treated me so well, of course, I'll save his sister."
"But just the two of us barely escaped. How are we going to save him?"
"Oh, have you forgotten what day it is today?"
"What day?"
"Full moon night."
When Alice heard the words "full moon night," she paused, then quickly realized.
"You... you're not thinking of...?"
"It's the only way."
"Then be gentle, there are still many brothers and sisters in the research institute's prison."
"Got it, don't worry."
Non-pure vampires exhibit uncontrollable, immense violent energy on the full moon night, and their power is incredibly strong. Even Vampire Queen Alice cannot withstand Cynthia's rampage on a full moon night for more than three moves.
But non-pure vampires have a deadly flaw: once they bite someone, that person gains half of their power.
So, Cynthia had never truly bitten anyone. She only indirectly drank some blood.
But if a vampire consumed Cynthia's blood, they could reach a level of power similar to Alice's—becoming a Vampire King.
So, as long as the people from the research institute injected or consumed the blood Cynthia had given, the full moon night would become their ultimate disaster.
No wonder Cynthia was so fearless.
