Chapter 45 - Chapter 45 : Revenge

After calming Mider down, the trio arrived at Galor. "Okay, so Zara and i have to go talk to the Mayor. Since you are pretty much an Academic now, you coming along?" Khaos asked Mider.

"No thanks, unlike you guys, i have a reputation in this city. I can't be seen moving around with blood covering every inch of my body". Mider replied. "I also have a lot of people to say goodbye to, so how about we meet here tomorrow at midday?"

"Sure, see you then". Khaos and Zara waved as they flew towards City Hall. When they arrived, they just walked into the same room as always while one of the maids frantically ran to call the mayor. It was not everyday a couple of blood covered figures strolled into city hall.

It did not take long for the door to burst open. "Are you okay what happened!?" the Mayor asked, seeing the state of his guests.

"I am sure you will know soon enough, but we encountered a portal a few kilometers away from here". Zara said.

The Mayor's eyes opened wide as he began moving towards the door, "Gods!, does The Spear know, how..."

"Calm down Mayor, everything has been dealt with. The Academy arrived and The Spear was already there, your city is safe". Khaos said.

The Mayor sighed in relief, "Thank you, i almost died of stress. I have to visit The Spear and pay my respects to their fallen".

"Mr Mayor there is something else". Khaos said, obtaining Morn's attention. "It's about the mystery we came to solve. We have found out who took the people but we have no idea why they did so".

"Really?, thank the gods. It means this whole thing is over. Who was it?".

"It was your daughter". Khaos tried and failed to say it more subtly so he just said it like how it was.

"What?" Morn expressed his confusion.

"I almost could not believe it myself, i am sorry". Khaos said.

"But how? that is not possible, Milly would never do such a thing. Why would she?, how would she? she was only in the sixth stage. She could never...". Morn continued to mumble to himself as his breathing quickened. Zara and Khaos just let him come to terms with everything as they did not know how they should act in such a situation.

How do you console someone who just learned that his daughter was a serial killer who killed hundreds of people?.

"So you do not know why?" Morn asked, his voice breaking.

Zara shook her head. "No, at first we thought that she was doing experiments on their Flux cores since Mider was let go. But now that we know that it was Milly, we know that she did not let go of Mider for his peculiar core but because Mider was her brother".

"Was she alone?"

"No she had people working for her, which explains how she did this with how weak she was", Khaos half lied, and Zara glanced at him. Khaos pretended not to notice.

"So all her underlings are dead i presume?" Morn asked and Khaos nodded.

"Do you have her body?"

"No unfortunately". Khaos said, "After i defeated her, she killed herself. And when i was about to bring her back, a portal appeared close to me. Sorry but i had to save myself, i could not get her body and it was destroyed by the horde".

"Due to that i never had the chance to question her about anything". Khaos added, and that part was true.

Mayor Morn nodded. "Fine, i need some time", he stood up to leave, but Zara stopped him;

"Mayor can you please put your signature here", she handed him a piece of paper and a quill from her space ring.

Morn skimmed over the paper; "How do i know that you are not lying to me?. What if everything you said was a lie?. You just came in here accusing my daughter of doing things i cannot even imagine her doing, then you want me to sign you out!?. Not happening!" he shouted.

"Not to mention that you apparently killed her!. You killed my only daughter just because you can!, just because your precious Academy gives you immunity you think you are untouchable!, You can do whatever you want!."

"A stage seven Academic like yourself casually saying that you 'defeated' her, Do you have no shame!?. You are a disgrace!" Morn shouted before leaving the room and slamming the door with so much force that the wooden door frame cracked.

"Well, that was.....Expected actually". Khaos said as he slumped onto the chair.

"What are we going to...." The door creaking open stopped Zara's words as the Mayoress walked in. She was a short woman with long white hair. Her face was covered in freckles, which was very unusual for cultivators.

"Please forgive my husband, you can imagine how this situation must be like for him", she said.

"Yes we do Mayoress, it's not a problem. However how did you know about it?. Morn left a few seconds ago, he could have not told you about it yet". Khaos said.

"With how loudly he was shouting, i am sure the whole core district heard him", the Mayoress said before adding; "Do i have the authority to sign you out of the quest?"

For quests which did not have any tangible proof of completion, a signature from one of the one who requested the quest was required by the Academy.

Since the quest brief did not specifically state who requested it, just that it came from the leaders of Galor, the Mayoress also had authority to sign even if she was absent when the request was being made.

"Yes you can, thank you". Zara said, handing over the paper and quill. The Mayoress quickly provided her signature before handing the paper back to Zara.

"If you would excuse me, i need to console my husband", the Mayoress said as she left. The newly broken door making a grating sound as it scrapped across the floor.

The Mayoress climbed the stairs and entered the first room on the first floor. Inside, the Mayor was looking outside the window with anger visible in his eyes. Arriving behind her husband and following his gaze, she saw Khaos and Zara walking the streets of Galor, towards the inner district.

"I can't believe you signed them out just like that", the mayor said.

"Not signing does not mean you are punishing them in any way. They could just leave anyway, we don't even know why we need to sign anyway", the Mayoress said.

"He killed Milly". Morn said, tears streaming from his eyes. "How can they get away with this?"

"They won't, i will make sure of that". the Mayoress replied.

"How?"

"There is someone who offered to help us". The Mayoress said before looking towards the door ."Come in".

The door opened and Lex walked in; "Greetings Mayors, i used to work for your daughter, but with her being...unavailable, i had to take her place".

"I can help you get revenge, all you have to do is turn a blind eye to some things", he said as his eyes turned bright green.
