"Khaos, i don't know how much longer i can hold him back".
"........"
"I need your help...."
The next morning after the day the students arrived at the Academy, Khaos woke up in a small, black room. It was four square meters in area and made of smooth stone. Surprisingly, the roof of the room glowed in a low purple light, providing warmth to the lodging.
The only furniture present was the bed on which Khaos lay, a chair, and a desk. Khaos removed the black sheets from above him sat on the side of the bed before looking at the rising sun from the window.
What was that dream about?' he thought as he walked towards the wall opposite the bed.
Oh well it was just a dream'. Then Khaos put his palm on the wall, and a steady stream of water flowed from the ceiling. "How is this even possible?" he asked himself for the hundredth time ever since arriving at the building.
After cleaning up, he exited the floor and flew up to the second one. Unlike the ground floor, the second was not a large empty space. It was actually a long straight hallway going across the building to the other open end.
On each side of the hallway were three doors. Khaos walked into the room he was directed to and inside, he found five other students which enrolled the day before with him. He then went to the side were a short girl was cultivating quietly.
Khaos recognised her as the stage 6 girl from back then, the only one who had a bow during the entrance tests. Due to her position, her long green hair was curled up on the ground.
Khaos silently sat about a meter from her and prepared to also Cultivate.
Everyone here is so stronger than me, i need to raise my stage as fast as i can, my cultivation speed is too slow. I wonder if those quests pay with silver, gold or Flux stones. Probably go....' Khaos' thoughts suddenly stopped as he noticed a picture on the wall.
It depicted an old man with pristine white hair and a full beard. His skin was golden and lacked any imperfection, not even a single wrinkle under his eyes, which were of an all knowing green. However, he did not have pupils, it was just like someone painted in the oval shapes of his eyes with a glowing green paint.
For some reason, Khaos' pupils dilated as his heart quickened. The more he looked into the green eyes, the more nervous he got. 'Khaos, our fate', a voice resounded in his mind, and every atom in his being shook.
"Good morning students!" A shout broke him out of his state of absolute fear. Khaos' focus came back and he noticed that all 29 of the other students were already in the room. Instructor Kira was standing in front of them with her hands behind her back.
It's him!, that voice i know it!' Khaos thought.
"You guys are in luck, I have been tasked with.."
"Instructor Kira!" Khaos shouted as he pushed aside the other students to get to the front of the group. "Who is that man!?" he asked, fervently pointing at the painting.
Instructor Kira was obviously not a fan of being interrupted, and the stare she gave Khaos could kill if she so wished, however she just sighed and looked at the painting with a proud smile. "That, you rude student is His Majesty, the Living Hope, the Lawgiver himself", as she said this she slightly bowed her head.
"Lawgiver?" Khaos mumbled.
"Yes, now why did you ask?. I understand being curious but did you have to interrupt me like that?" Kira asked.
"Well Instructor, i...i want to...no he...", Khaos furrowed his brows. "I don't know", he whispered, before slowly moving to the back of the class with his palm on his forehead.
What is happening to me?, why did i do that?' he thought.
"As i was saying.." Kira said, drawing Khaos' attention. "I was chosen to be your guiding Instructor, which means that any questions you have, which can't be answered by your other instructors or masters, you can come to me". Kira said.
"And by the way, for those who were not recruited by me, my name is Instructor Kira", she added before a chair suddenly appeared from thin air, on which she sat on.
"I will start by the Academy rules, which are actually pretty straight forward. First off, Random fights between students are not allowed, if you have a problem with a fellow student, you first buy a fight pass, then you can fight".
"However, you cannot challenge a student who is weaker than you. You can only buy fight passes for students on your level or those stronger than you. You can also decide whether it's a fight to the death or a spar, but fights to the death are more expensive than spars".
"On to the next topic. The academies use a special kind of currency called 'marks'. One mark is equivalent to one Flux stone and you can exchange marks for stones, but not the other way round".
"Marks can be earned by completing Academy missions found in the Lounge. Fight passes are bought using marks. You can also buy artifacts and a plethora of other things in the shop on the ground floor."
"Now as you know, the purpose of the Academies is to fight against the beasts that threaten our very survival. A portal can appear anytime and if it does so inside our territory, you will be deployed, depending on the portal's class, and how many Defenders we have on hand".
"However your main purpose is to get as powerful as possible as fast as possible. When you become a defender, your only purpose will be fighting beasts. Doing Academy missions is optional, but fighting beasts is not. It is your duty to protect humanity, and a honor to die trying".
"The last item on the agenda is the Legend of the Lawgiver", for a reason unknown to him, Khaos' heart skipped a beat when he heard that name.
"Ten thousand years ago, a portal appeared in a city not too far from here. In the tender age of 30, barely a baby. The Lawgiver fearlessly walked into the portal and disappeared from our world."
"Then monsters came and killed most of humanity, and 500 years later just as all hope seemed lost, the Lawgiver returned. Single handedly, he massacred all the beasts currently on the planet, almost dying in the process. But he survived, and his survival ignited our flame of hope".
"Using the secrets he found on the beast planet, he gave us the gift of Laws, the very abilities which gave us a second chance. However, in doing so, the Lawgiver crippled his own power forever, the details of which are known only by He and his Lawkeepers"
"We owe our lives, and the lives of our future descendants to the Lawgiver"
