Khaos quickly landed and charged into the hole at the side of the worm's body, going inside the corpse. It did not take him long to find his mother and he pulled her out of the monster carcass.
"Mother, are you okay?" Khaos wiped the strange green mucus from his mother's face.
"Khaos", his mother said, barely in a whisper. That's when Khaos noticed the ghastly hole at the side of her chest. Her ribs and lung were exposed and part of the lung had burned off.
"Don't blame, you..yourself..", that was his mother's final whisper before the light in her eyes vanished.
A torrent of tears streamed down Khaos' face as he sobbed. In less than two minutes, Khaos had gone from enjoying a meal with his parents to grieving both of them.
"I am sorry, i'm so sorry", Khaos sniffed as he softly closed his mother's eyes.
Suddenly, he felt a stabbing pain on his back just as the ground moved away from him. Khaos looked up in panic, to see that he was currently in the talons of an almost featherless bird. Only the wings and tail of the beast still had feathers.
Khaos quickly put his hand on the pink skin of the bird as lightning traveled down his forearm straight into the beast, which seized up in pain for a second. In doing so, the bird let go of it's prey, and Khaos found himself plummeting towards the ground.
When he had followed his mother, they had left the vicinity of Lator city, but the bird had been flying towards the city, so Khaos was falling towards the ruins. He quickly engaged his wind element and flew towards the west.
He needed to get as far away from the Dark Dish as possible. However, after flying for merely 200 meters, he began falling. He was out of Wind Flux, which was the energy used to manipulate the wind element. Khaos quickly outstretched his hands, and a 2 centimeter thick slab of earth appeared below him.
Khaos lay down on his slab of earth as he rode it to decrease wind resistance. That was when he heard a screech from above him, and he turned to lie on his back, just in time to see his bird friend swooping down, talons first.
"Leave me the fuck alone!", Khaos screamed as a torrent of earth spears appeared from within the earth slab before shooting towards the bird.
The spears were incredibly sharp, and without the added defence of the feathers, coupled with it's own velocity, the bird could not dodge.
Khaos sighed in relief as the bird fell towards the ground with about a dozen spears sticking out of it like a porcupine. Of course his relief was short lived, the slab of earth below him suddenly disappeared.
His all-out spear attack had exhausted his Earth Flux.
"A little bit of lightning, Fire and Water". Khaos mumbled as he thought of how his remaining elements could help break his fall. A lot of ideas went through his head but only one had the best chance of success.
From Khaos' palms two columns of water shot out at incredible speeds and blasted at the ground. By now, he was 100 meters from the ground, and falling fast. Thankfully the jets of water reduced his descent from 15 meters a second to 4 meters per second.
Alas, luck had forgotten about his existence as he ran out of Water Flux at an altitude of 6 meters. With one last explosion of fire to reduce his velocity, he landed on a field about a hundred meters from the city. The field had just been tilled so it was not as hard as it could have been.
Khaos stood up and began running away from the city, but then winced in pain as he touched his back. Retrieving his hand, it was covered in blood. The bird's talons had pierced his flesh when it took him off the ground.
Khaos continued limping away, then the unmistakable thuds of a four legged creature were heard behind him and Khaos' heart nearly stopped.
He was out of Wind, Water and Earth Flux, being left with a little bit of lightning and fire, he had low chances of survival.
However he did not easily give up as he pushed his body to run faster. Taking a glance behind him, he saw a 1.5 meter tall creature on four legs, with a single horn on its head.
Khaos listened to the creature's footsteps and when he thought that there was at least 4 meters between him and it, he unloaded all his remaining lightning behind himself.
The creature was paralyzed for a few seconds and stumbled at the same time as Khaos jumped. While in the air, he saw the creature stumbling beneath him and he fell right onto it's back, as planned.
The beast tried it's best to shake off the food on it's back, but Khaos wrapped his left arm around it's neck and his right palm covered it's right eye.
Then with a grunt, he unleashed his remaining fire straight into the creature's eye, frying it's brain and killing it. As the creature collapsed, so did Khaos, he was out of all his Elemental Flux, and he was utterly exhausted, he tried to stand, but his limbs did not listen.
As he laid there on top of the creature's corpse, the ground began shaking. Mustering the energy needed, he raised his head, and what he saw made him release a bitter smile.
"Well it looks like i will be joining you soon mom and dad", he said.
In front of Khaos and charging in his direction was an army of monsters. They all came from Lator city and were either running away from something or chasing something, Khaos was not sure. What he was sure of however, was his demise.
He could not have survived that many beasts in his peak condition, much less in his current state. However, when the horde was a hundred meters away from him he suddenly relived the familiar feeling of being carried off into the sky against his will.
Looking up, he expected to see another flight-capable creature, however he saw a human face.
