Planet Zylon, a vast, and peaceful planet. Rarely were there ever wars nor struggles on Zylon, everyone lived in harmony with each other and life prospered. Due to this, many people chose not to cultivate.
Cultivation took a lot of time and without the need for power, no one wanted to waste their time cultivating. Over 98% of humans just cultivated to the first stage of the Magic realm, which was the weakest stage of the weakest realm, so as to get access to elemental energy (Flux) just to make their chores easier.
Tilling the land with a wave of a hand was much easier than sweating for hours under the sun with a hoe. Boiling a pot of water by setting one's hands on fire and holding the sides of the pot was easier than looking for firewood.
Also, cultivating up to the first stage of the Magic realm granted the cultivator with a hundred years of longevity on top of the normal 150 years of human lifespan. Anyone could easily cultivate for about 2 more years to gain a further 100 years of life, but no one wanted to.
After living a fulfilling life for 250 years, everyone wanted to die and make space for the future. Of course there would be exceptions, but basically no one wanted to live past 450 years. That was because no one wanted to bury their own children, much less grandchildren.
This became the status quo for over a million years on planet Zylon as peace reigned. Humans became weaker and weaker both magically and physically since even the smallest chores were done using magic. Why walk when you could simply fly with the wind element?.
It seemed than nothing could disturb the peaceful nature of Zylon, but then about ten thousand years ago, that all changed drastically.
The sun rose on the east of the City of Lator like always and the citizens were preparing for another peaceful day, that was when a black spot suddenly appeared in the middle of the city, right in front of City Hall.
The black spot started out small, barely two centimeters in diameter, however, in less than 2 hours it had grown to a diameter of three meters. It now looked like a pitch black circular plate, floating half a meter off the ground.
Of course by now almost everyone in Lator city and the surrounding villages knew about the strange phenomena, which they called "The Dark Dish". It was never known whom actually came up with the name though. Anyway, four hours later, the Dark Dish had stopped growing after reaching a diameter of five meters.
By that time, hundreds of curious citizens surrounded it, some even building makeshift stands to get a better view point while some stood on the rooftops of nearby houses.
On a planet which had seen peace for millions of years, something like the Dark Dish did not scare them at all. 'What's the worst that could happen?' they all thought.
Five more hours later, just watching became boring and one brave young boy thought he would lead by example. The very concept of fear not known to him, he walked towards the Dark Dish and plunged his hand inside, stayed like that for five seconds, then pulled it out.
Seeing that nothing out of the ordinary happened to his hand, he looked at the curious gazes of the citizens, shrugged, and walked in, disappearing from Zylon. His parents were quite proud of him. 'We raised a good, brave man', they thought with satisfied smirks on their stupid faces.
The next young man was about to follow his friend to their new playground when something slowly walked out of the Dark Dish. The citizens furrowed their brows at what stood in front of them.
The thing stood at 1.5 meters tall at the withers. It was covered in brown fur with white streaks all over. It's four muscular legs ending in silver razor sharp claws.
At the base of it's spine was a long tail which had bone spikes at the tip, it's face was elongated with teeth poking out the sides of it's mouth.
It's fully black eyes scanned it's surroundings with curiosity, wonder, and a bit of surprise, just like the eyes of the baffled citizens. They had never seen anything like that before, what was it?.
It must be noted that the only living race on planet Zylon were humans, there were no animals or even bugs whatsoever, so anything which did not have two arms and two legs was a complete mystery.
No one alive had ever seen anything non-human before, and with ignorance came absolute, blissful, stupidity.
A group of people walked forward to inspect the strange thing closer, the Mayor and Mayoress of Lator were part of this group. The Mayor was the first to arrive and he immediately began touching all the parts he was curious about, starting with the teeth.
The Mayoress in the meantime was seen going under the thing for some reason, while other people happily ran into the Dark Dish. If this thing came from in there, maybe there were more right!?.
The humans obviously did not notice, but the creature was dumbfounded, what were these puny humans doing?. Did they not know that their death had come?.
Of course the citizens of Zylon really did not know, just the concept of death before the end of one's lifespan was a fairytale they used to scare unruly children.
Suddenly, the creature was brought out of it's shocked state when it felt a pain in it's nether regions, it seemed the Mayoress was still exploring.
The creature shook it's head and let out a mighty roar, that shook the very ground it stood on, and for the first time in their lives, the citizens of Lator experienced a new feeling in their beings as the hairs on the back of their necks stood up and their palms started sweating.
Run'.
In a split second, panic spread as everyone began fleeing from the thing. They did not know why, but they wanted to get away from it.
Of course it was too late, the Mayor and Mayoress were long dead and more creatures suddenly began flowing out of the Dark Dish. All kinds of things the citizens of Lator had never seen before appeared.
Some of them were bigger than others, some had long thin legs reaching 5 meters tall, some were massive with gigantic teeth and rubbery skin, some looked like long tubes with a mouth at the end, some flew in the sky without even using the wind element while some burrowed through the ground.
The dark dish in Lator city was not the only one which had appeared on Zylon, it was just one of thousands, and the next morning, over 90% of the human population had been wiped out
