Kael was finally settled into first period, leaning back in his chair as he looked over at his friends—Drake, Sean, Gabriel, Koro, and Jack. They were all on their phones, of course. The teacher? Mrs. Ava. The demon who didn't care for rules, and as much as she probably shouldn't have been a teacher in a middle school, she was loved by everyone. She had this... carefree, rebellious vibe. Probably because she barely got paid and probably didn't give a damn about the school's rules.
Mrs. Ava was sitting at her desk, scrolling through her own phone, not even batting an eye at the chaos in the classroom. Some people might say it was a disaster waiting to happen, but it felt like freedom to Kael. As long as they didn't disturb her, everything was fair game.
"So, are we gonna learn anything today?" Koro asked from the back row, his phone held high as he flicked through memes.
"Why? Mrs. Ava's too cool to teach us anything anyway," Sean said, showing off his latest video game score to Gabriel.
"You got to love it, though," Gabriel said with a grin. "No homework, no real classwork. It's like a free period every day."
As they laughed and scrolled on their phones, Tiffany, the class nerd, was sitting in the front row, scowling. She had her arms crossed, staring at Mrs. Ava with a disappointed look. "Mrs. Ava, can we please do something productive today? I really need to get ahead in my studies."
Kael couldn't help but roll his eyes. Tiffany was the type of person who wanted to get work done in a room where it was practically impossible to focus. She was always the one trying to spoil the fun, always trying to get Mrs. Ava to give them worksheets or practice problems. But Mrs. Ava? She didn't give a damn.
"Tiffany, honey, if you want homework, you can ask the other teachers," Mrs. Ava said without looking up. "But here, we do things the fun way."
Tiffany's face turned red. "This is ridiculous! You're a teacher! You're supposed to teach us!"
"We're learning life lessons," Mrs. Ava replied, finally looking up. "Like, how to survive middle school without turning into a complete bore."
Tiffany huffed, slumping in her chair, clearly defeated. The rest of the class couldn't help but laugh. They loved Mrs. Ava's approach. No rules. No stress. Just enjoy the time.
As the minutes ticked by, Kael's group kept scrolling, occasionally making snarky comments about the memes they were finding. One meme in particular caught Kael's attention: a picture of a chicken wearing a tiny suit, with the caption "Me, acting like I know what I'm doing in life." Kael snorted out loud, earning a few chuckles from his friends.
"That's me every day," Kael said, showing it to Drake.
"Same," Drake replied. "Like, I'm in middle school but it feels like I'm living in some insane action movie."
"Yeah," Sean said, "and we're just waiting for the plot twist."
The class settled into the usual chaos. But then Tiffany, never one to back down, stood up again. "Mrs. Ava, I swear—"
Before she could finish, the bell rang, signaling the end of the class. Mrs. Ava stood up, stretching as if she hadn't a care in the world.
"Alright, kiddos," she said, "I'll see you all tomorrow. Don't forget your phones... or whatever."
As everyone scrambled to pack up, Kael and his friends exchanged high fives. They were off to the next class, ready to make the most of another day in Mrs. Ava's no-rules zone.
And as they walked out, Tiffany was still muttering under her breath about how "unfair" everything was. Kael just smiled. Life was good.
