Jay got to the gym in a hurry. Luckily for him, he spotted his dark haired and dark eyed friend standing in front of a guy named Alex. Alex was the football captain's younger brother and he always uses that as an opportunity to boss people around, threatening them that if they don't do his bidding, he'll tell his brother, who is huge by the way, to beat them up. He was a jerk and a bully. Jay hurriedly went and stood behind Kyle in front of Alex.
"Thanks man." Jay said to Kyle.
"You're welcome." Kyle replied. That's when Alex fumed.
"Hey! You're cutting in line." Alex said.
"No I'm not. My friend kept this space for me." Jay said back.
"What a lie. Get outta here." Alex yelled grabbing the coach's attention.
"Would you stop yelling. I've told you, this space was kept for me." Jay said. Just then the coach walked over to the scene.
"What's going on here?" The coach asked.
"He's cutting in line." Alex said.
"No I'm not. My friend kept this space for me." Jay told the coach.
"Dude, I don't care. Get out!"
"Make me."
"Enough!" The coach said.
"You two are disrupting my tryouts. Both of you, leave and come back next week." The coach said.
"But coach, I've trained so hard for this." Jay said.
"Me too." Alex said.
"Clearly, you two aren't ready to tryout so you both leave." The coach said finally.
"But..."
"Now!" Coach said. They both lowered their heads and left I'm shame. When they got pit of the gym, Jay turned to Alex.
"This is all your fault." He accused.
"My fault?! You're the one who cut in line." Alex fumed.
"Ugh! I told you I didn't." Jay almost yelled.
"Whatever dude. You're the main reason we both got kicked out. Just fuck off." Alex said. "You fuck off." Jay said angrily and lfrt Alex there. He was angry at what Alex did but he couldn't do anything about it so he just went outside to steam off.
Later that day, during recess, Kyle found jay at their regular table. He walked towards him and sat near him.
"Hey dude." Kyle said. Jay looked up and saw his friend.
"Hey buddy." He replied
"You okay?"
"Yeah I am. I know I got kicked out but at least the coach gave us grace of trying out next week."
"Yeah that's good."
"So, how did it go?"
"Not bad. So far, we have five new members of the team, including yours truly." Kyle said proudly.
"Oh my god! Kyle, you got in?" Jay exclaimed.
"Yeah I did."
"Wow! I'm so happy for you." Jay said sincerely
"Thanks. And don't worry, the coach says he need like three more players on the team."
"That's great news. At least I still have a shot." Jay said hopefully. Just then, a pretty blonde girl with piercing green eyes and fair skin walked up to them.
"Hey boys. Can I join you?" She asked. Kyle immediately recognised the voice and almost choked on his food.
"Oh...um we don't mind at all. Join us." Kyle said and looked at Jay for help but all Jay did was to smirk as the girl, who's name is Valerie sat down.
"I just remembered, I have something to do in the library so I gotta go." Jay said and stood up. Kyle looked at him with pleading eyes. Jay almost laughed at his friend's nervousness. He bent down and whispered in Kyke's ear:
"You'll do great. Just be yourself." Jay said and walked away. As he has said earlier, he headed to the Library since he had nothing to do for the mean time. On getting to the library, he brought out his headphones, connected it to his phone and played music while searching for the book of his choice. The book is nameeld 'Child of Destiny'. It's an African story which many of his school mates ignore and he was the only fan of that book, or so he thought. When he finally saw the book, he reached out and grabbed it. As he removed the book from the shelf, he silently gasped as he saw a pair of dark blue eyes staring at him. He removed his headphones and stared at the blue eyed person, although he couldn't see the person's full face. She cleared her throat snapping Jay back to reality.
"Um...hi." She said. Jay almost gasped again. Her voice was small but firm and sweet to the ear.
"Hi." He replied.
"I think you have my book." She said. Jay looked at the book in his hand and looked back at her in confusion.
"I thought no one reads this book." He said.
"I do." She replied.
"Sorry, I saw it first." He said.
"Well, can we share?" She asked. Jay thought for a moment and then said
"OK." They both came out from the corners of the book shelf and Jay was mesmorised by the beauty that stood in front of him. Her hair was the mixture of black and blue. Her skin, glittering like pearl and her eyes shining like diamonds. Her plump lips stood firm and her cheeks were puffy but not too big making her round face look so memorising. Jay stared at her for some tim e and then shook his head to regain himself.
"I'm Jay by the way." He said as he held up his hand.
"Erica." She said and shook it. 'Erica, what a pretty name for a pretty face' Jay thought. They both sat down, ready to read the book when Jay started a conversation.
"I haven't seen you around here before. Are you new?" Jay asked.
"Um yeah. I just transferred here and it's mid terms so I have a lot of catching up to do." She said.
"What class are you?" He asked.
"The senior class." She replied.
"Oh yeah, you have a lot of catching up to do. So you're my classmate." She looked at him and smiled a little.
"Really? We're in the same class?"
"Yeah. I'm kinda the topper in the class." Jay said proudly.
"Cocky much." She said and they both chuckled.
"I could help you put if you want." Jay offered. Erica looked surprised.
"Really? That would be a big help."
"Yeah no problem. We should just take about where and when we'll be having our sessions." Jay said.
"Okay. Thank you in advance."
"You're welcome." He replied and they proceeded to read the book.
