Chapter 7 - Awaken(4)

" Awakened Zylan, you have near perfect grades, an extremely good track record of behaviour. Your spot here at Kainbard is near guaranteed. However you need to take a potential test to see where your limits lie."

Zylan slowly nodded before getting up and following the interviewer down the hall.

Potential test weren't accurate, instead it was a means of guesstimating where ones limits were. People could break free from these limits and surpass their expected rank it just takes alot more time and effort. So most of the time they only took asceneded potentialed people but if you are promising enough then they will take you if your potential is lower.

It was rather stupid to say the least because the school wouldn't even be teaching him until he reached his full potential. Despite that fact, they continue potential rank testing regardless. Maybe it was a means of making their record look good for only nurturing high ranking people. If that was the case, it was working because the school was now world renowned.

Eventually they reached a large stone wall which had two hand shaped stamps imprinted on it. The wall stretched 5 meters tall and beside the wall was a large computer with values Zylan couldn't understand. Not that he couldn't understand he just didn't know what they meant, what the values actually stood for.

It didn't really matter all that much though because once he was told to place his hands on the indented part of the wall, he hurriedly followed the instructions. Zylan ,too , wanted to satiate his curiosity. He never actually knew his potential not that he particularly needed to because he knew he could reach Planetry level but it was still nice to know. The only problem with the machine was it couldn't read past Planetry level so he would never actually know his full potential but it would give him a good idea.

Once Zylan had his hands on the wall a faint glow traveled up the wall and through some wires. Once the essence he had pushed through the wires reached the large computer panel, some numbers flickered reaching to higher and higher numbers. He wasn't sure which number correlated to which rank but it was common sense to think that the higher the number the higher the rank.

After a few minutes of waiting, the interviewer's straight faced pulled up into a small smile.

"Ahh, Planetry potential. Well then, Welcome to Kainbard Academy. I'll be excited to see you around."

It was as Zylan had expected. Still he was happy and even more so than that, excited. Unfortunately Zylan couldn't stay excited for to long. His future struggle was going to be something else. Zylan could only pray that he would have enough endurance.

Zylan followed the man out of the testing room and down to the reception. The interview had taken place in a remote place, even then it was only a few miles away from the actual academy. He could see other people of his age coming in and out the large building. They were all still youthful and full of life. They were obviously not aware of the future they were yet to live. Not that he wanted to be the one to ruin there hopes.

He still wondered if they had seen the reports of incidents of hunderds of kids being wiped out because of an incident. It was not even a rare thing. The odds of dying within the 5 years at an academy for awakened weren't low. Infact nearly half the kids who entered one would not make it back unharmedp. Fatality rate was major thing when looking for schools.

It was a sad number to look at. He wished to find a way to lower the numbers. It was another goal he wished to achieve. His goal list was slowly growing bigger and bigger.

Walking outside the building Zylan met with his family who were picking him up from his interview. His happiness still plastered across his face.

"I got in."

His mother was the first to respond.

"Awhh well done sweetie im proud of you."

His dad didn't really say much but be could tell he was proud without asking. He was visibly uncomfortable with the idea of his son going away for a long while possibly we forever but that didn't mean he wasn't happy for his child.

During the car journey home they talked about what he was going to need and what not to bring. He would be leaving his home in 3 days to start at Kainbard. His journey was just beginning.

Once Zylan arrived back at his home, he ran straight to his room and grabbed a suitcase from his wardrobe. He packed all the essential and a few more sentimental things.

The thing first was a dairy that hehad be writing in for the past few years.

The second was a small snowglobe of a small town.

The last thing was a necklace he had gained many years ago. He wore it while he was traveling back in time. It was very fortunate that the necklace didn't disappear or break during the pressure of time travel, but he was glad it didn't. It had been a gift he received from Tilly. He wore it everywhere, and used a lie to hide where he had got it form.

And so after packing his things and saying his final goodbyes to neighbours, friends and distant family he was ready to leave.

The three days had passed by extremely peaceful. Just how he liked.

He wore clothes that were on the smarter side. A white T-shirt and black jacket paired with trousers made from Tylack skin. Tylack was a new form a maumal that appeared after the Awakaned blessing appeared. Tylack skin was known to be comfortable and smart looking at the same time so it fit Zylans needs perfectly.

With his large blue suitcase, Zylan walked out the door. A taxi was waiting for him at the end of the road, it was his one way ticket to Kainbard.

Zylan looked towards to taxi and then back at his family. His brother, mother and farther were all glued to the spot watching him walked towards the taxi with sad eyes. Zylan had to admit that he did not want to leave them behind.

Zylan sighed and placed his suitcase upwards before leaving it there and running towards his family. One by one he gave them each a hug, leaving his father till last. Once it was time to give his farther a hug, he whispered in his ear just loud enough for him to hear.

"I'll be back, I promise."

A faint smile appeared on his face and. with his final goodbyea over and done with. He took his first step towards the taxi then another.

When he got on the taxi he made sure he knew where he was going before saying loudly.

"To Kainbard."

It was a bit of a cheesy thing to say considering the taxi driver already knew where he was going but that defeated the point.

He was going to Kainbard and wanted the world to know to.
