Tuesday was extremely cold—bitterly so. The match was only three days away, but the weather had turned terrible. As a result, they postponed it until January, announcing that it was canceled for now.
"Please, everyone, stay in your respective homes and avoid going anywhere," the announcement advised.
"You've got to be kidding me!" John exclaimed. "All that practice—for nothing? This is crazy, man!"
"Oh well, looks like we're stuck," his friend replied. "Too bad you're not Rose, or this would have been fun and romantic."
"Good thing I'm not!" John laughed. "But still, being stuck here is worse than I thought. What are we gonna do?"
"We just have to wait," his friend responded.
Meanwhile, Sarah was on the phone. "Did you hear the news?" she asked.
"Yeah," Rose replied. "They even stopped all transport services, including private jets. I just hope those two don't cause trouble and stay safe."
"Don't worry," Sarah assured her. "They have no other option but to stay put."
Even Kevin saw the news while he was in the hospital. His mother was relieved, but she was still worried about his friends, Sam and John.
Meanwhile, Leah called John to check if they were safe—her concern was purely out of friendship.
John sighed. "It would be really nice if a private jet could come pick us up."
Leah reassured him, "Don't worry, we have a jet that can take you safely in emergencies like this. You and Sam can start traveling by tomorrow."
She hesitated before adding, "But please, don't tell Sarah or Rose about this. It might cause a fight."
"Oh, don't worry, Leah, we won't," John assured her.
"Great, then we'll see you by tomorrow night."
"Sam, I heard something about a private jet," John said.
"You were eavesdropping? How rude!" Sam scoffed.
"No, you big punk! You were talking so loud!"
"Oh, my bad," John chuckled. "So, what should we have for dinner?"
"Some chicken nuggets and the finest bottle of beer to warm us up," Sam suggested.
"That's my man!" John grinned, and they both started digging in.
After a few drinks, they were completely drunk and began blabbering.
"Hey John, why don't you propose to Sarah and marry her?" Sam teased.
"Shut up," John muttered.
"Then why did you let Rose go?"
Sam fell silent at that question. After a moment, he sighed. "I loved her, but I wanted her to decide what she truly wanted. But now, things have changed. And you know what they say—true love never fails."
"Yup," John nodded. "Actually, Sarah and I never really liked Rose and Kevin together. We always thought you two belonged together. We tried so hard to bring Rose back to you, and funny enough, without even trying too hard, she came back. Just like you said—true love never fails."
John placed a hand on Sam's shoulder. "Just promise me, Sam. Promise me you'll take care of Rose for me."
Sam smiled at him gently. They clinked their empty bottles together before drifting into a deep sleep. The entire room reeked of beer.
