An hour later, a sleek black car pulled up outside Ever's house. The moment Isla and Leo spotted it from the window, their faces lit up with pure joy.
"Daddy!" Isla squealed, grabbing her mini unicorn bag. Leo followed, dragging his superman backpack behind him.
Allesandro stepped out of the car, wearing his usual crisp suit, but there was something different about him something heavier in his eyes. Yet the second the twins ran into his arms, that weight seemed to disappear for just a moment.
"Hey, my minions," he murmured, kissing the tops of their heads. "Go on, get in the car. Daddy needs to talk to Mommy first."
"Okay!" They didn't hesitate, happily climbing into the car, already bickering about who would get the window seat.
Once the door shut behind them, Allesandro turned toward Ever, his jaw tight, the softness from before replaced with frustration.
