Ambrose sat in his living room, his hand gripping the phone as his mind raced. The sight of Isla in pain had shaken him more than he cared to admit, and the guilt gnawed at him.
With a deep breath, he dialed Natalia's number, hoping that talking to her would help clear his mind. The phone rang once, twice, and then she picked up.
"Ambrose?" Natalia's voice was smooth, calm. "Is everything okay? You sounded off earlier."
He exhaled slowly, leaning back in his chair. "I… I just need to talk to someone. I've been thinking about Isla. She's in the hospital, and I feel like I failed her. I didn't even give her a glass of water, and now she's hurt. I don't know what to do."
There was a pause on the other end of the line. Then Natalia's voice softened. "Ambrose, you didn't fail her. These things happen. She's strong. She'll be fine. You just have to be there for her now."
