Excited by the permission, Rachel quickly grasped a white crayon in her small hand. Then she drew twinkling stars and a moon on top of the pitch-black drawing.
A while later, she proudly held up the completed drawing and said.
"How is it? I put stars and the moon in your drawing!"
The drawing that had been just pitch black had truly become a beautiful night sky, just as Rachel said. Simon stared blankly at Rachel, who was giggling.
"Is my drawing pretty?"
He wanted to tell her that she was much prettier than any drawing, but the words just circled in his mouth.
Simon turned his head abruptly, not wanting to reveal his flushed face.
"Why aren't you saying anything? Is there something wrong with the drawing...?"
"...I'm tired."
"Tired? Did you not sleep again last night, Simon?"
"Yeah."
