Chapter 33: The First Test and the Calm Response

Time: Friday morning

Location: The Partner Company Conference Room

On Friday morning, sunlight streamed through the windows and onto the floor of the partner company's conference room. However, it did little to disperse the cold chill that hung heavily in the air. Zhang Liang, accompanied by his assistant, walked steadily into the room, which was about to become the "battlefield" of negotiations. As soon as he entered, he immediately sensed the tense atmosphere, as if the very air had frozen, sending a shiver down his spine.

At the head of the table sat General Manager Wang, sitting arrogantly in the main seat, legs crossed, reclining with an air of superiority, as if he were the ruler of the world, and everyone else was beneath his notice. He looked at Zhang Liang as he entered, a faint smirk playing at the corner of his lips, his expression one of disdain, as though mocking Zhang Liang's audacity. His smile was sharp, like a knife edge, filled with condescension.

"Well, well, you're punctual, young man. But let's not beat around the bush. Your company breached the contract first, and that's an undeniable fact," General Manager Wang spoke, his tone dripping with contempt, his voice like a sharp needle, aimed straight at Zhang Liang. "The penalty fee—there's no room for negotiation. Either you pay up, or we end this partnership here. I don't have time to waste with you."

As he spoke, he casually twirled a pen in his hand, casting a sideways glance at Zhang Liang, his posture a clear display of dominance, as if to announce his absolute authority.

Despite Wang's condescension and mocking tone, Zhang Liang's face remained calm, a gentle smile spreading across his features, as warm and steady as the spring sun. There was no trace of anger or unease in his expression. He moved forward slowly, accepting a carefully prepared document from his assistant, and handed it over to Wang with measured elegance.

"General Manager Wang, please don't jump to conclusions," Zhang Liang's voice was calm but firm, like a gentle breeze attempting to disperse the sharp tension in the room. "We fully understand the difficulties you are facing. If we were in your position, we would have the same concerns." As he spoke, he opened the document, pointing to various sections with a laser pen. "This is the cost optimization plan our team has worked diligently on, day and night. Take a look—this plan will not only significantly lower operational costs for both parties but also greatly increase efficiency. It's a win-win situation for both of us."

Zhang Liang's eyes conveyed deep sincerity, locking onto Wang's, as if sending a silent message of unwavering belief: We genuinely want to resolve this issue and continue collaborating. Despite Wang's arrogant attitude, Zhang Liang's gaze held no fear or retreat. He stood like a resilient pine tree in the storm, firm and unyielding.

As Zhang Liang elaborated, Assistant Xiao Li stood quietly by, his eyes filled with admiration and trust for his superior. Watching Zhang Liang handle Wang's disdain with such composure, Xiao Li couldn't help but think to himself, Zhang Ge is truly amazing. In the face of this pressure, he remains so calm and rational. If I were in his shoes, I'd probably have been intimidated by Wang's attitude already.

At first, Wang appeared indifferent, his gaze drifting as though uninterested in Zhang Liang's words. But as Zhang Liang's explanation deepened, Wang's expression began to change. His earlier disdain gradually faded, replaced by a flicker of curiosity and contemplation. He straightened his posture, lowered his feet from the table, and began to pay closer attention to the materials, occasionally asking probing questions.

"Is this optimization plan really as effective as you say?" Wang furrowed his brow, looking at Zhang Liang with a trace of skepticism. "I don't want to hear empty promises. I need to see solid results."

Zhang Liang smiled slightly, unhurriedly responding, "General Manager Wang, your concerns are completely understandable. This plan wasn't just thought up on a whim; it's based on extensive market research and data analysis. For instance," he used his laser pen to point to a set of data on the document, "this is a comparison of similar plans implemented by other companies in our industry. The data shows an average reduction of [X]% in costs and an increase of [X]% in efficiency. Moreover, we've personalized the plan according to the specific circumstances of both of our companies to ensure it's perfectly suited for this collaboration."

Wang listened to Zhang Liang's response, falling silent for a moment. Then, he nodded slightly. "Hmm, what you've said does make some sense. However, I still need to carefully review this plan. Please leave it with me, and I'll give you an answer after I've had a chance to go over it."

Zhang Liang let out a quiet sigh of relief in his heart. He knew that while he hadn't completely convinced Wang yet, he had at least sparked his interest and made him willing to consider the plan seriously. This was already a promising start.

"Of course, General Manager Wang. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at any time. We look forward to continuing our cooperation with your company and creating greater value together," Zhang Liang said with a smile. He then politely excused himself and Xiao Li from the meeting room.

After leaving the partner company, Xiao Li couldn't contain his excitement. "Zhang Ge, you were amazing just now! Despite all of Wang's hostility, you handled it with such composure. I think we've got a real shot at this!"

Zhang Liang smiled, patting Xiao Li on the shoulder. "Don't get too excited just yet; this is only the first step. Wang hasn't fully agreed to continue the partnership. We still have more work to do. But as long as we stay calm and stick to our principles, I believe we'll ultimately achieve our goal."

Summary: In this chapter, Zhang Liang faces the partner company's representative, General Manager Wang, and skillfully navigates through his hostile attitude. By presenting a well-prepared cost optimization plan and maintaining a calm demeanor, Zhang Liang successfully piques Wang's interest, taking a significant step toward salvaging the partnership. In the next chapter, how will Wang respond to the plan after further review? And how will Zhang Liang continue to persuade him to agree to the continuation of the cooperation? Stay tuned for the next development.
