Chapter 1 - Break-in?

10:03 PM

Rain. It was raining outside, the sounds of the little droplets putting me at ease through the night. I could practically feel my nerves calming down after a long day of work. My body had finally begun relaxing, allowing a brief moment of rest. Finally, after so many long hours I can sleep.

But just as I was about to snuggle in the covers, I heard a loud crash coming from downstairs. The sound startled me, sending me falling onto the carpet. What was that? I turned towards the door, but not before seeing my plants still outside on the balcony. "Dang it, I forgot to take out my plants." I muttered, jabbing the air silently. I fully turned my attention to the door, waiting to hear another sound.

CRASH

This time louder than the last. I pulled out the bat from under my bed and slowly opened the door. Oh, Thank Goodness I oiled the hinges. I tipped toed down the stair peeking around the corner for any figures or shadows.

CRASH

This time it sounded like a pot falling. My heart started racing, I could practically feel it banging against my chest. My eyes darted from left to right, even up and down to make sure it wasn't some monster. At the last step of the stair, the loudest creek could be heard. I felt my soul leave my body. What do I do? WHAT DO I DO? My eye could see a shadow moving closer to the stair quickly as my breath became more jagged. I clenched on my bat one more time before waiting for the shadow to disappear from my view. Then, BAM! I put a hole into my wall. "What the-"

"Meow!"

My eyes darted down, and as an instinct, I kicked the thing and swung my bat, while screaming at the top of my lungs. The pain from my toe stung like hell, but at least I got whatever it was. I looked down, seeing the thing, realizing it was my cat, well, one of them. With its emerald green eyes and stripped, smoky gray fur. But that wasn't all that was on the floor. My steel pan laid on the floor next to my now broken cabinet. Wow, that's going to cost some money. Dang. Not like paying for a new wall wasn't going to cost money. My cat looked down at my foot, which was above the floor by a few inches. It placed its little smoky gray paw on my toe and looked at me with its pearly green eyes. "Meow?" it said, in a questioning. Sure, it looked cute, but I knew what it was really saying.

Did I do that?

The mocking idea of my cat being a-nevermind, but I know I'm not too far off. After a minute of calming down and realizing what was happening, I finally decided to let her off with a warning.

"Just because you're cute doesn't mean you can go around my house and destroy it."

Meow!

Don't you mean MY HOUSE?

I then sat down on the steps and picked up my cat and placed her into my arms. She looked confused, yet comforted. After a bit she then relaxed, allowing me to stroke her head. "Dang Misty..."
