A planet twice as large as the Sun.
*Boom* *Boom*
Its surface an unending expanse of nothing, barren as the Abyss itself. The ground trembled with each step, sending ripples through the vast, empty world. The colossal silhouette of the being stretched across the horizon, its size incomprehensible, its presence undeniable.
*Boom* *Boom*
Above, suspended in the void, hung a moon the size of Earth, its pale light casting a ghostly glow upon the lifeless terrain below.
"..."
The Colossal Being paused, towering above the world. Its gaze turned upward, fixed on its destination. With a slow, deliberate motion, it stretched its gargantuan hand toward the moon.
*Crack* *Snap*
The air itself seemed to split as the Beast's fingers closed around the moon, crushing it as easily as one might crush an insect. The fragments fell from its grip, and without hesitation, the Beast opened its massive jaws, swallowing the pieces whole.
*Munch* *Crack*
The moon disappeared into the abyss of its hunger.
But as the Beast devoured the fragments, something strange began to stir beneath the surface of the planet. In the farthest reaches, deep cracks started to form in the very fabric of space itself. Silent rifts, unseen but felt, began to pulse across the world. They appeared in the barren wastelands, small and quiet, yet undeniably real.
A tear in the universe.
...
On Earth, thousands of light-years away, the Rift appeared.
It began as a thin fracture in the air, hovering just above the Pacific Ocean, unnoticed by satellites and radar. Then it widened, stretching miles across. The sky grew darker, as if the sun itself had been consumed by an unseen force. Winds howled, and the water below churned violently, creating monstrous waves.
In a remote military base monitoring anomalous activity, alarms blared. Technicians scrambled to make sense of the readings, their screens flooded with impossible data: energy levels spiking beyond measurable thresholds, gravitational distortions warping the region.
"What the hell is that?" one soldier whispered, his voice trembling.
The room fell silent as an image came through the feed—live footage from a reconnaissance drone. The Rift pulsated like a living heart, and for a brief moment, something appeared beyond it.
A silhouette.
The creature's form was vast, incomprehensible in scale, its many limbs moving languidly as if unconcerned with the tiny world on the other side. Its presence seemed to warp reality itself; the drone's feed flickered and died as Zarketh's glowing, predatory eyes locked onto the camera.
"Is that… a god?" another technician muttered, his face pale.
"No," the commanding officer said, his voice grim. "That's not a god. It's death."
The Rift snapped shut, leaving a deafening stillness.
---
Beneath the chaos and confusion, in the sprawling metropolis of New Dawn City, life went on.
The protagonist, an unremarkable figure lost among the throng, stood outside a crumbling apartment building.
His name was Eren Vale, an ordinary man in a world of extraordinary people. He adjusted the straps on his worn backpack and glanced at the towering skyscrapers around him, their neon signs flickering with the names of powerful corporations.
Above the noise of car engines and chatter, distant sirens wailed. Another Rift incident, no doubt. They had become so common that most people barely reacted anymore.
Eren pulled his hood tighter over his head. "Another day in paradise," he muttered, stepping into the building.
Inside, the hallway smelled of damp concrete and mildew. He passed the cracked door of his neighbor's apartment, where muffled voices argued over a broken Rift clearance device. Ignoring them, he climbed the stairs to his small, one-room apartment.
The news was already blaring from his ancient television set.
"—reports indicate the Rift in the Pacific Ocean may be the largest ever recorded. Emergency response teams are urging caution as the possibility of a Dungeon Break increases. More updates at—"
Eren turned it off. He didn't need another reminder of how fragile life on Earth had become.
He threw his bag onto the couch and stared at the ceiling, his mind drifting. Something about today felt different, like a faint buzzing in the back of his skull. He couldn't explain it, but the sensation lingered, gnawing at him.
His phone buzzed. It was a message from his best friend, Theo.
> Theo: "Hey man, you seeing this Pacific Rift thing? Freaky stuff. Stay safe out there."
Eren typed back quickly.
> Eren: "Safe? Bro, I'm broke. If a monster shows up, I'll throw rent notices at it."
Theo's reply came almost instantly.
> Theo: "Hah! Don't forget to save one for me. Be careful."
Eren tossed the phone aside, letting out a weary sigh. The faint buzzing in his head grew louder. Outside his window, the sky looked darker than it should have.
"Just another Rift," he muttered. But deep down, he couldn't shake the feeling that something much worse was coming.
In the distance, a faint glow marked the horizon.
The first signs of Earth's end had arrived.
