Chapter 4 - The Divorce Agreement

With her new visage still unsettling Xia Yi gazed at herself in the mirror.

She was troubled by the recollection of the agreement she had made with He Shihan.

She was bound to a guy whose name alone made her shiver, and she was about to enter a marriage that felt more like a trap.

She was different from the naive, broken, and mistreated Xia Yi, though. She had experienced worse.

She had changed her mind about being the obedient fiancée. She was planning.

Resolved, Xia Yi strode inside He Shihan's office.

He was as icy and aloof as his slick, contemporary office.

She walked in, and he sat behind his desk, his gaze never leaving the reports before him.

When she talked, he didn't even raise his head.

Even though she was nervous, Xia Yi added, "I want a divorce before we get married," in a firm voice.

For a little period, Shihan's fingers hesitated on the paper before he put it down.

At last, he raised his dark, unfathomable eyes to meet hers.

"A divorce?"

"Hmm.."

"Before the wedding?"

"Yes," she said, looking directly into his eyes.

"In these circumstances, I do not desire this marriage. Let's complete the divorce provision in our prenuptial agreement.

For a minute, his emotions revealed nothing as he observed her.

"And what do you expect to gain from this?"

Xia Yi refused to give up and crossed her arms.

"I want enough money to live well and guarantee my future. In exchange, I'll consent to the marriage without more objection.

There was stillness for a while.

She was shocked as He Shihan's lips formed a thin, icy grin.

His eyes danced with amusement as he reclined in his chair.

"You think , you can just negotiate your way out of this?"

Feeling a wave of indignation, Xia Yi said, "That's exactly what I'm doing,"

He Shihan leaned forward, his eyes growing cold, and his smile vanished.

"All right. I'll agree to your terms, but don't expect anything to go as planned."

Although Xia Yi experienced a surge of victory, there was something in He Shihan's voice that made her stomach turn.

But now she could not afford to be weak.

"I'll take my chances."
