Chapter 13 - WANTED

ONE YEAR LATER..."Shirley!!! You left the water running! Woah!!! This is an indoor pool!" Kate's voice echoed through the house as she waded through the water.Shirley bolted out of bed, panic setting in as she realized the extent of the flooding. Rushing to the bathroom, she found Kate already turning off the tap, her frustration evident."Stop right there!!!" Kate's command halted Shirley's attempt to escape. "I'll be back tomorrow morning before work, and I expect this place to be as dry as my butt.""Well, your butt ain't dry," Shirley quipped weakly."Try me!" With that, Kate stormed out, leaving Shirley to deal with the aftermath. As Shirley began the arduous task of cleaning up, she couldn't shake the memory of her dream about Jayden. Despite losing contact with him, he still lingered in her thoughts. The doorbell interrupted her reverie. Rushing to answer it, she was surprised to find Kate returning for her umbrella."Thank you for coming back," Shirley said gratefully."Who said I'm here to help you? I forgot my umbrella, and it looks like it's gonna rain," Kate retorted before leaving again.Left alone with her thoughts, Shirley started the cleanup process, muttering to herself about Kate's lack of forgiveness. The doorbell rang once more, and Shirley's heart skipped a beat when she saw a man in a black baseball cap standing there. It couldn't be..."Excuse me?" Shirley's voice trembled as she struggled to see his face.To her astonishment, it was indeed Jayden. She hesitated, unsure whether to invite him in, but before she could make up her mind, a voice in her head screamed, "The house is flooded!""I thought you invited me in," Jayden said, his grin fading as he realized the situation."There's an emergency inside," Shirley explained hastily.Jayden's demeanor changed instantly. "I seriously wanna help," he insisted.Reluctantly, Shirley let him in, feeling a mix of emotions as he surveyed the flooded house."You grew more beautiful, why?" Jayden's words caught her off guard, and she couldn't meet his gaze.He gently lifted her chin, his eyes searching hers. "Am I scary?" he asked softly.Shirley shook her head, her heart pounding as Jayden leaned in and kissed her.As they stood together in the flooded house, memories flooded back, and Shirley felt a rush of emotions."I miss you," Jayden whispered, breaking the silence as he began to help Shirley clean up.As they worked side by side, Shirley couldn't help but reminisce about their first meeting near Klem hospital and their subsequent encounters. Despite everything, she knew that being with Jayden was where she belonged.
