Surprised, Ridge quickly threw the towel which was drying his hair out of his hand onto the bed and said, "Show me."
Berkay quickly walked to the navigation table and Ridge followed closely behind, when they made it to the table, it was then that Berkay pointed, "Take a look, I have already sized it up, the Federation would probably categorize it as a small planet, but it is still around fifteen-thousand kilometers give or take, perfect for us to set up a base and hopefully mine some materials and resources for the ship."
"Hmm, from the view that the scanner is giving us it seems like a world that can sustain life, make sure to have our soldiers prepared when we get in closer, it's always best to remain cautious with these kinds of things," Ridge replied while analyzing the planet.
"Roger that, I also don't want to be pessimistic but this place might not be so bad to settle down in for a while if you ever feel like the situation is lost and we won't be able to return to the home system," Berkay said a little bit more solemnly than usual.
Rubbing his chin Ridge didn't reply as instantly as he thought he would. In his mind, it wouldn't be a bad thing to settle for someplace to try and make it home, but before that thought could sprout he quickly shook his head, "No, at least for now let's keep those thoughts in our own heads. Although the situation is bad I don't think it has reached that point."
"Affirmative, also just as a heads up you should give out some promotion to a few people on the ship later, It will help stabilize the ship in terms of organization and will be easier to carry out your orders that way. Many of the supervisors besides Caroline and Yayha ended up being killed alongside the commander," Berkay added just before saluting.
"Noted," Ridge replied quickly.
He then moved back into the commander's room and thought for a moment before bringing out a notebook from his new uniform pockets. Grabbing a pen from one of the counters in the room he closed his eyes and after a moment of contemplating began writing down his thoughts.
'The year is 15 N.E. and today is a Tuesday, it's the day that we ended up stranded in space, essentially, I was hesitant to write within this journal, but seeing as it was given to me by Arthur I figured I may as well use it now that he is gone. Funny how things like that work. Anyway, my navigator found a planet that we can probably settle down in for now until we can start recouping our strength in terms of repairs.
I had fallen asleep while working on organizing some of the supplies and knowing myself the whole thing reeks of something suspicious, I could understand if I was tired from doing a whole day's work, but to be honest I lazed around before the whole incident so not much energy was spent then. Only later when I needed to fight the infected, did I use a good amount of energy, but not to the point of exhaustion. I exercise for a reason.
My plans for now are only to stabilize the ship's morale which is pretty much done with everyone being busy, then we need to fix the ship which also just so happens to coincide with the fixing morale part, and then get us home alive or at least to the planet we found to gather materials.
I was also recommended to choose some supervisors or just in general people to promote and to be honest I am thinking of just promoting Caroline to vice commander and that's it, maybe promoting Hank or George to head of ground forces, but to be honest with a much smaller crew those positions are the only ones that need to be filled.
Yayha is also a good person to promote but to be honest, his role sort of already takes care of the things he is great at, and there wasn't exactly a role off the top of my head that fit him, I am not sure.
Anyways I'll just end it here, I don't know what else to write down.'
Closing the notebook and throwing the pen onto the counter he got it from, Ridge tucked the book into his chest pocket and prepared to sleep. Not of course before letting everyone else know that they can rest. He would check the progress tomorrow and see what needs to be done. Ridge had also forgotten to ask Berkay about the distance the planet was from. Scratching the back of his head Ridge just sighed and opened his panel watch once again.
Clicking some buttons and eventually preparing to send out a mass message to the crew he began the recording, "Lights out, you can stop what you're doing and go rest, if you are also uncomfortable about sleeping by yourselves feel free to group up," once done he sent it out and prepared for sleep himself.
The many crew members who received the message also began to return to their now messy rooms that still hadn't been cleaned and some even returned in groups to the bridge where they simply grabbed the mattress from their bedrooms and created a makeshift dorm. It was okay to be cautious, was the mindset of many of the remaining crew members, and thus a good majority of them ended up grouping up.
Just before shutting the lights off and going into deep sleep, Ridge began to wonder to himself. Sitting up he scanned the room and then spotted a slightly outdated poster. Getting up he walked up to it and peeled the bottom right corner up. There was a vault.
"Hah, I thought I remember you mentioning something about keeping a vault in your room," Ridge said quietly to himself.
Continuing to peel off the poster he eventually fully unveiled the steel vault and noticed the panel directly in the middle asking for the password. Taking his tongue and thinking, Ridge eventually began to type out the old commander's birthday.
'Wrong Password, Please Try Again'
A robotic voice sounded out, Ridge stood motionless for a minute and then began typing again, this time he typed out the year and day the H.C. Heart set off from Eserus and began taking missions for the military.
'Sucess'
"Nice, that was easy enough," Ridge smiled.
Soon after pulling open the vault door fully he hissed and sharply inhaled his breath. Sitting within the vault was a weapon. Grabbing it carefully Ridge noticed the creators, Firebranded. This company created flamethrowers last he remembered.
"Well, this will certainly come in handy," Ridge happily exclaimed, he then put the gun carefully into the safe and closed its door once more. He didn't lock it though, primarily just so he wouldn't need to go through the process of entering the password again.
Much more satisfied Ridge returned to bed and took his boots off. Covering himself with a blanket he drifted off to sleep with a smile. Tomorrow will be just as busy.
