The training for the other students looked…manageable. Reasonable, even. Sure, they were dodging low-level fire spells while chopping vegetables or carrying sacks of flour uphill, but it wasn't anything that looked truly impossible.
Not like what I was enduring. As I floated high above the ground, courtesy of Maeve's dragon wings, I couldn't help but wonder if this was how I was going to die.
Maeve hadn't said a word since she'd picked me up and taken to the skies, her wings enormous and gleaming in the sunlight.
I didn't even know where she was taking me only that it was far away from the other students, which was somehow more terrifying than being dropped right then and there.
"Maeve," I shouted over the wind. "Where are we going? Are you just planning to drop me and get it over with?"
She didn't answer, her focus fixed ahead. I glanced down, my stomach churning as I saw how high we were.
