Chapter 1 - new beginning

I woke up looking at the blue sky filled with clouds. I was lying on the ground covered with tall green grass. I felt as if I was sinking into the grass.

I quickly got up and looked around me, which was a vast plain of green grass, along with some trees and small bushes.

I really didn't know where I was or who I was, and I didn't remember anything about myself. All I knew was that I was just a human being.

I stood on my feet and walked a little while the strong wind gently hit my body. The view of the place was so beautiful that my eyes widened every time I looked closely.

I continued walking until I reached a small channel of fresh water. I stood there staring at the water as it flowed quickly. I bent down a little to see my reflection in the water.

I had a somewhat attractive face, short and slightly coarse black hair, sharp black eyes with dark circles under them. I moved my mouth for the first time to comment on my face, saying, "This face doesn't look familiar to me. I really don't remember anything about who I am."

I was very confused. I felt a little scared because I didn't know what to do next, what the next step should be.

My appearance indicated that I was not poor at all. My clothes were elegant and beautiful: a black shirt, a black coat, black pants, along with a gray tie and a slightly flat black hat.

I also had a black bag with me; it was heavy and annoying. I decided to leave it where I had woken up. I would return to that place to see if I could find something in that bag that might be useful to me.

When I returned to the spot, I found the bag. I opened it and found several things inside. There were long, massive horns that did not seem like ordinary animal horns, and there was also a large bag of coins, some of which were gold, some silver, and some bronze.

It looked like a large sum of money. This was further proof that I was very wealthy.

There were three to four books that looked old, but I had no motivation to try to read anything right now.

There was a small card. I took the card out of the bag and began reading the words written on it. It contained several pieces of information such as name, age, place of residence, and other details:

Name: Oliver Williams

Age: 26 years

Occupation: Archaeologist

Research Category: Magical Beasts

Residence: Zainland City

"It seems that this information belongs to me."

"So my name is Oliver then."

What caught my attention the most on this card was the research category: "Magical Beasts."

"What does this mean?"

"And also, what brought me to a place like this?"

"And why did I lose my memory?"

"Well, I don't know anything right now, but things will become clearer later. First, I need to get back home."

I closed the bag, slung it over my back, and began to move to further explore the area, hoping to find a way leading to a civilized place away from these plains. "I haven't visited this place before, or maybe I have, but I don't remember because of my memory loss."

As I was slowly walking around, I heard a sound. It resembled the cries of a small child. I cautiously moved towards the source of the sound, and when I reached it, it was indeed a baby. It was placed in a small wooden crib, wrapped in several small blankets. It was crying loudly, and I wasn't sure why it was crying.

I got closer and picked up the baby, trying to soothe it a little. "It finally started to stop crying."

While I looked at the beautiful baby with soft black hair and hazel eyes, I thought about the possibility of searching for its family here, but I was hesitant. "Who lives in a wild environment like this?"

"And the answer is: no one. It seems that this baby has been abandoned."

The proof of my answer was when I found a note in the wooden bed of the baby.

What was written in the note was: "To whoever finds this girl, I hope you take care of her."

"Is that really all?"

It was strange, and the strangest part was what was mentioned in the note, that the wish of whoever abandoned the girl was to take care of the baby.

"And the strange thing is: who throws a baby in the wilderness and wants someone to take care of it?"

"Isn't it better to leave it in front of an orphanage or something similar instead of this?"

"Well, it's a bit mysterious, but maybe there's a good reason for abandoning it here."

The baby was awake and looking at me directly with innocence. I looked at her firmly and said, "Little one, you are truly lucky that I found you. Since I've found you, I can't leave you here."

I made the decision to take her with me. I cannot leave a helpless baby alone in this wild wilderness.

The girl started crying again. She was crying hard and screaming loudly: "It seems she is very hungry. That's normal since she has probably been abandoned here for hours."

"I need to find a way that leads me to the nearest city immediately."

I began walking, searching for the road, and eventually, I really found one. And not only that, luckily, there was a cart heading this way. "It seems that I will finally get out of this place."
