Chapter 3 - Reaction Third

Reaction Third

This particular evening was sort of mundane. Faintly lambent stars were stapled into the obscenely sombre high, which itself was loured with streaks of sopping tangarine.

Lucid brown eyes heeded the sight with painstakingly meticulous immersion and pouty mouth fabricated invisible words, who befogged themselves into the winter breeze.

"Mommy, come see, fireworks are going to start!" grinned away Mia, her small hands curling around the turfs of grass blades and prying the innocent lives out.

A light chuckle weaved into the white as Lory made her way out of the dim lights pouring out from the open kitchen door which led into the farm.

"My cherry," crooned Lory as she flopped down beside the absorbed Mia. The grey tresses caressed her wrinkling forehead as she threaded them behind her ear, heated flesh cooling down to balance the foreign cold.

Conversationally speaking, this was an event that took place every Rufuth's month. In the name of Lavi, it was named as Jisph's Prosperity. Mia often found herself desiring to tear her way into that place, and buy dolls.

She hadn't realized that she already had dolls. Right next to her one existed.

"Mommy?"

There was hungry barking of a stray dog somewhere and squeals of a puppy.

Mia smiled and hugged Lory's fat, hairy arm. "Mommy? Are you lonely?"

"Not with you, my girl. Why would I be lonely," a small puff of laughter choked past her throat, "You are too young to know about these words, don't you think?"

She considered for a while. "Just focus on the fireworks, baby. They're for you."

Usually Lory's words would have made Mia curious. But as the mother regarded the little girl's face - she found there were pearls of knowledge beaded into her eyes, as if she had predicted what she would say.

"Lace— Father—"

Exploded the fireworks, shimmering loudly into fading glows of booming noises, schemes of blue, red, green and orange decaying into small sparks of enticement.

"Ah," Lory's eyes reflected the blinding sight, and her mind found it the best moment to remember that time when Lace and her sat playing cards under the shed this night years ago.

Mia plucked a dry blade again, fingers tearing it into small leaves. Something akin to boredom flashed across her mind.

And she found herself wanting some thrill.

Turning her head towards Lory, Mia tilted her head, "Mommy?"

"Yes, baby?" sniffed Lory.

"Do we have unused clothes at home?"
