Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Surprised Bump

Keisha woke to an alarm clock annoyingly buzzing the hell out of her sleep. "Ahhhhhh, why can't the world let me sleep for crying out loud?" she thought to herself. As the first child out of six, Keisha wasn't particularly close to either of her parents, and it showed in her attitude towards life.

A university student, Keisha didn't exactly thrive in the academic environment. In fact, she hated it. As she stood up from bed to head to the bathroom, she stubbed her foot on the bedstand and let out a string of profanities that her neighbors could likely hear. She even threw in some Korean curses for good measure.

After freshening up, Keisha sat on the floor, leaning against the wall in her simple condo, feeling bored out of her mind. Her phone rang, disturbing the peace she was trying to create, and she was startled before realizing she hadn't put it on "do not disturb" mode. It was her mom calling, and Keisha picked up, waiting for her to get to the point.

Her mom's shrill voice came through the line, screaming at Keisha to sit up and get her act together, warning her not to have any carryovers in the semester. Keisha zoned out, tuning out the familiar lecture until the end of the call.

To comfort herself, Keisha decided to play "Spring Day" by BTS and let her mind wander, imagining different scenarios. The sound of her stomach growling brought her back to reality around 4 pm, reminding her that she hadn't had breakfast. She settled for chips for lunch, not wanting to cook or gain any more weight.

Later, Keisha ventured out to get some street food and bumped into someone. "Keisha, can't you see?" a voice said, and she turned to see Logan, a guy who had opened old wounds and stirred up unpleasant memories. Keisha smiled, giving him her signature fake, yet genuine-looking smile, and hugged him.

"Hey, long time no see! What's going on with you?" Logan asked. Keisha's response was lukewarm, and she zoned out again, a habit she'd developed lately. "Anyway, see you later, we'll catch up," she said, making a quick exit, faster than a bike, still planning to hit the gym someday.
