Around three years after his birth, Louis had acquired a significant amount of information about his new environment, much of it thanks to a few books he had secretly stolen from the family library.
His name was Louis and he was born in 1989, his name was the same as his grandfather's—a man who, according to what he'd learned, was a major figure in the world of fashion in Paris.
His family name, De Versailles, was one he recognized. It was the very family he had ennobled in his past life. Now, they were one of the most influential families in France.
Apparently, an extraordinary amount of time had passed since his execution. The monarchy, which had defined his previous existence, was now nothing more than a subject in history books. The world he had once known was gone
Every night, Louis devoured the books he managed to obtain, learning about the incredible changes that had occurred. Inventions and technologies that seemed like dreams to him now existed for almost everything. His nights were spent reading, analyzing, and trying to comprehend all the new advancements that had reshaped society in his absence
But among all the startling revelations, the one that left him most astonished—despite the fact that he had been told about it—was the existence of magic. Magic was everywhere, his family used it constantly, whether it was his nanny employing spells to clean, cook, or bed him, or the casual enchantments woven into their daily lives
Today, however, was a special day. It was the day Louis would test magic for himself. He had discreetly obtained a book on awakening magical abilities, studying its techniques in secret. To his surprise, he discovered that his body had already been gathering magical energy on its own, as if it were a blessing bestowed by God
Though he hadn't yet tested his magic, Louis could now perceive mana everywhere. It radiated from certain individuals, with his father, Charles, standing out the most. His father's magical aura dazzled everyone around him, leaving Louis to assume that Charles must be an exceptionally powerful wizard
After some thought, Louis decided on a simple experiment to test his magic: moving a chair with his mind. It was a basic test, but to his surprise, he passed it effortlessly. Without even an ounce of difficulty, the furniture floated under his control
"Did I… just do that?" he muttered to himself, watching the chair glide through the air
Thinking it was surely a small exploit to do what he just did at three years old, Louis wanted to try more difficult things and so on , he searched in his book
In this world, wizards used wands, but of course, as a child, Louis didn't have one. After thinking for a while, he dismissed this annoying detail and tried conjuring a spell with his hand as a catalyst for his magic
The spell he selected was a moderately advanced spell, Evanesco—a spell whose objective was to make anything inanimate disappear. It was a practical spell, mostly used in household chores
After calming his breath and excitement from moving his chair with his mind, he ultimately tried a real spell for the first time. He channeled all his mana into his hands through his veins and made the hand movements while trying to pronounce the incantation
"E-vane-sce… Evanescere!" he practically screamed
VOMMM
...
In an instant, every piece of furniture and even his bed disappeared, leaving him on the floor in complete shock. This was not his intention—he had only intended to make the flowerpot on his commode disappear
"What… just happened?!" he gasped, staring at the empty room
...
Alerted by the loud sound made by the spell, most of the house staff rushed to Louis's room, even Charles and Mary, who were sleeping, woke up and ran through the property while wondering what could have happened
"Louis!" Mary called out as she burst into the room, her voice filled with panic. Charles stopped behind her, his eyes sweeping over the now-bare room
"What in the world happened here?"
Louis blinked at them, still sitting on the floor.
"I-I might have made every-thing dis-disapear" he confessed while stuttering with his little voice
"You might have?" Charles repeated incredulously, stepping further into the empty room
Mary knelt down, pulling her son into a gentle hug.
"Darling, are you hurt?" she asked softly, her worry evident
"No, Mother. I'm fine," Louis said, hesitating before adding, "But… I think I overdid it."
