Chapter 20 - Epilogue

It has just been a year since we have been together again. Things are going great between us. There are occasional arguments, but this is normal in a relationship. We reconcile rapidly, and usually Jackson is the first to extend his hand in agreement. He is unable to function normally when he can't kiss and hug me. He is a koala who would most like to pet me all the time.

Furthermore, he is adorable.

So far, he's been fairly polite. He hasn't brought us any trouble. There was once when I was furious with him, and that was on New Year's Eve, when we were hosting my friend at our house, and there was an argument between them. Jackson got some kind of drunken rage when he saw that Kai hugged me.

Well... he's a jealous type. I have to be careful even about what I do with my best friend, who is like a brother to me.

- Mouse, how long should I cook this pasta? I think it's already soft," Jackson calls back to me from the kitchen as I sit on the couch, browsing messages on my phone.

- I told you that twenty minutes is enough.

I want to laugh as he hastily sets the pot down from the induction hob and throws the noodles into the strainer. He does it so clumsily that he narrowly misses getting burned.

I keep hoping that he will gain some experience in the kitchen, but still, I have to admit that he has two left hands for cooking.

I walk up to him and hug his back.

- I love you more than life," I say, closing my eyelids.

- Even if I can't make a simple dish? - he asks in a snotty voice. I turn him back to me, and he embraces me around the waist. - I will never learn to cook.

- And do I tell you to do it? You're pulling out on your own to prove something to me.

- I just want to impress you.

- You already impress me enough. You don't have to cook for me to consider you perfect.

Jackson leans over me and kisses me on the lips.

- So in twenty years you won't be reproaching me for being an unfit grandpa? It's sorrowful when I hear stories of much older co-workers whose wives treat them like garbage because they can't cook a simple dish to charge them.

I start laughing because of these words.

- Seriously? You're afraid of the future, that's why you want to learn to cook? You're cute, Jackson," I say, squeezing his cheek. - First we have to be married, and so far, you haven't even proposed to me," I add, shrugging my shoulders.

- You know I'm preparing for that. I would like to surprise you, so don't ever mention it again.

I hug my face to his chest, being the happiest woman in the world to have him all to myself.

- I love you so much that I could live another twenty years with you even without marriage.

- I love you too, mouse," he says, kissing the top of my head. - The day I got you back is the happiest day for me.
