Chapter 31 - The monkey and the crocodile

Once upon a time, there lived a clever monkey near the bank of a river. A crocodile a his wife lived in the same river. One day, the crocodile's wife fell very ill. She warne to eat something delicious. She asked her husband to get her a monkey's heart. The crocodile did not know what to do. Then he thought of the monkey that liw near the riverbank. He swam to the tree on which the monkey was sitting and eat fruits. He looked at the monkey and in a sw voice said, "Dear monkey, why do you wa your time eating the fruits of this tre Aren't your taste buds tired of eatin the same fruits every day? There a juicy fruits on the other side of t river. Why don't you try those?"

The monkey replied in a low vois "I would love to eat the juicy fruits the other side of the river. But, sad the river is too wide for me to cross might drown and die."

The crocodile quickly added, "D not worry about drowning. Yo can sit on my back and cross th river safely."

The monkey thanked the crocodi for his help and quickly seated himself on his back. The crocodile vam in the water along with the monkey When they had reached the middle of the river the crocodile told the monkey that his wite was ill and wanted to eat a monkey heart

The monkey realised that he had been foolish to go with the crocodile He knew he was caught in a trap, but he did not lose hope. He quickly thought of a clever plan to save his life.The monkey said in a soft voice, "Oh! Why did you not tell me this before, friend? I did not bring my heart with me. It is hanging on the tree I live on. Now, let's go back and bring my heart for your dear wife."

The foolish crocodile did not use his brain and believed what the monkey said. He swam him back to the riverbank.

The monkey at once jumped and climbed the tree. He then looked at the crocodile and said, "You have a big body, but a small brain.

The crocodile had nothing to say or do. He repented for his foolishness on being tricked by the monkey.
