Chapter 34 - CHAPTER PREVIEW Detectives

Like with most events, careers, institutions, and politics throughout society, the detectives in Natovis were divided into multiple camps.

Earlier in the story it was mentioned that Stelvin was a part of the "b team" of the detectives and police forces. There were really four different types of detectives in that operated in Natovis and abroad.

There were the lesser detectives, like Stelvin. They were usually either younger people looking to advance their career, or was someone that had some kind of quark or fundamental flaw that barred them from the better positions.

The next were the head detectives. These were the seasoned veterans of the police force that climbed the ranks and did know what they were doing. They did a great job at solving the everyday cases, but the smarter criminal would still always be two steps ahead of them.

The third type was the kind that were sitting in this very room right now waiting to be briefed before they would officially be looking into the Eleenya Cosmosteeya case. This third type were the private investigators. They were the very best talent that Natovis could offer. The investigators were often resented by the first two types because they were often hired when the first two could not prove successful, making the first two groups of detectives look bad.

Lastly there was the fourth type. Most people would likely laugh or scoff if their existence is even mentioned. It is so mysterious that even the narrator of this story cannot describe much about it.

This type was a kind of force orchestrated by some unknown "entity" deep within the authorities. The members of this entity went far above the heads of even the top city managers such as Mr. Downwell.

The entity operated mostly internationally outside of Natovis. However, in the mornings the police and the detectives would sometimes find some files mysteriously labeled "solved" or some files for cases would just go missing entirely.
