A wave of anger and sadness washed over me, and tears streamed down my cheeks uncontrollably.
Good people get exploited, docile horses get ridden. The poor truly have no dignity.
I have to fight to get out of this and make you regret it.
Wu Fan finally wiped his tears away and vowed to change his life. Then, he firmly took his mother's hand and headed toward the Tianshui psychiatric hospital.
Just then, his old phone rang.
Seeing it was Mayor Liu Tiansheng calling, Wu Fan immediately answered.
"Wu Fan, I need to tell you something. Your mother has been acting strangely lately. I arranged for someone to take care of her, but she escaped last night while the person watching her was asleep. We're searching for her in the village. I wanted to warn you so you can be prepared!" said the mayor in a serious tone.
"Oh, Mayor, my mother is already here with me. I'm taking her to the hospital for an examination!" Wu Fan quickly replied.
"Well, that's good news!" Liu Tiansheng sighed in relief. "Even though you're the son-in-law, money makes sure she's well taken care of. If you need anything, call me!"
Wu Fan was a bit amused by the idea that, in the minds of the villagers, it seemed like he led a comfortable life as a son-in-law, when in reality, he didn't have a penny to his name. The money for groceries came from his mother-in-law, carefully planned out.
However, he was grateful to the villagers.
"Without money, who's going to take care of your mother? Go back home." At the hospital, when he couldn't pay the registration fees, the security guard immediately kicked him out.
"No, no, she can't go out, she might get lost!" Wu Fan, who had already headed toward the kitchen, rushed back.
Slap! Hu Xiaoying raised her hand and slapped Wu Fan hard, shouting, "You have no manners, you don't even listen to what I say?"
"No, Mom, I can listen to everything, but she's our mother! If she goes out and gets lost, what will we do?" Wu Fan, a bit panicked, raised his voice.
